Yoku Moku, maker of the famous cylinder shaped tuile. cookies that they call the "cigare", is from Japan.  With over 40 years of creating these cookies, there are shops all over Japan and have expanded internationally, including the USA, Dubai, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Not satisfied with just making cookies, they have also expanded into making cakes. To expand further, in Tokyo, they created their first restaurant called Blue Brick Lounge. A casual cafe style restaurant located in the Omotesando Hills/Aoyama area of Tokyo. Most recently, they have expanded and opened a Blue Brick here in Hong Kong where they call it Blue Brick Bistro.

Located in Lee Tung Avenue, it's next to the Yoku Moku shop. The entrance is on the side but the actual restaurant is located up a flight of stairs. Compared to the one in Tokyo, it's less casual and more decorated like a fine dining restaurant. There is also a balcony for those that want to sit outdoors and see the people walking below.

Menu is in English and Chinese. The food I had will be listed in a la carte prices, but do not fear. They do have dinner sets that include most of the food I have here for a value price of $388!

BB Punch ($58). Dinner started with a drink. I chose a mocktail that consisted of blackberries, apple and strawberries. It was like a mixed berry juice and I liked it as it wasn't too sweet.

Japanese Style Chicken Liver Pate ($108). When this appetizer arrives, the staff will squirt some sake onto the hot stones found underneath the pieces of toast. What is the purpose of this? You know when you go to those sizzling hot plate steak places and they pour sauce onto the hot iron plate? It sizzles and you go oohh....ahhh. That's basically what you have here. Oooh...aahh.  But like the sizzling hotplate steak, it really doesn't add much else to it. But it did give that nice bit of entertainment. But what about the food? The pate was incredible. It was rich and decadent. Cholesterol? Are you really still worried about that if you are eating a liver pate?

Crab Meat and Apple Salad with Curd Mango and Avocado Foam ($128). The second appetizer was a salad and it was quite honestly a fairly generous portion. There was a light airy avocado foam on the side that had a slight taste of avocado without the usual heavy buttery texture. I mixed it with my salad to give it a bit of avocado taste. The salad itself was packed with crab. There was apple but they were miniature little cubes that was easy to miss. The mango was sweet. I love crab so this was fantastic having mouthfuls of it.

Signature Lobster Bisque ($158). The soup was a lobster bisque. A bowl with a  lobster and creme fraiche was placed before me.

And ta-dah! LOBSTER BISQUE! Honestly, I think this pouring soup in front of you is clearly for entertainment value than anything else. However, despite the showy way they presented soup, it was very good soup. Thick without being too thick. There was a strong seafood taste. The bit of lobster was fresh and firm.

Linguine with King Prawn and Japanese Crab Paste Cream Sauce ($228). The pasta was coooked perfectly with a very tasty sauce that wasn't too creamy to become gunky. It had a rich seafood taste. It came with two pieces of prawn that was firm and sweet.

Mushroom Risotto with Uni ($188).  The risotto was not al dente but a bit over but to me, I liked it that way. I hate it when it's too starchy. There was a bit of uni on the side that you mix up with the risotto to make it even creamier than it already was.

Japan Kumamoto Rindo Pork Rack with Mesclun Salad in Matcha Tofu Dressing ($238). The pork chop was cooked to a medium rare and was perfectly seasoned and moist. The salad was dresed with a matcha tofu dressing that had a slight creamy texture but was not too overpowering. However, the pork chop was the star of this plate.

Pan Fried Greenland Halibut with Triple Pearl ($208). This was actually the best main dish of the evening, in my opinion. The halibut was perfectly cooked. Tender and flakey. The skin was crispy. It was served with a fantastic buttery potato puree. There were three different pearls served on the side. One was black caviar, salmon roe and the most interesting of all ... pearls made from soy sauce.

Original Minami Aoyama Roll ($58). Yoku Moku has a varying array of popular roll cakes and we tried them all. This is their signature original version which I love a lot. The cake was soft and fluffy like Japanese cakes usually are.  The cream was lightly sweet with a hint of vanilla.

Milk Tea Minami Aoyama Roll ($58).  This was an interesting flavor. Milk tea. It shocked me when I bit into it as it tasted EXACTLY like milk tea. It was amazing.

Maccha Minami Aoyama Roll ($58).  Matcha flavored desserts is pretty much a staple in Japanese pastries so it was no surprise this is also one of their flavors. The taste of matcha was very intense and definitely for those that love matcha.

Mont Blanc ($68).  This is their take on the classic Mont Blanc. Instead of the usual towering inferno of piped swirls of chestnut paste on top of a cake, the puree was covered inside a white chocolate dome. The taste of the chestnut wasn't too strong. It was ok.

Creme Brulee ($68).  The creme brulee definitely passed the crackling top test when I hit it with my spoon. However, the top was bordering on being a bit on the burnt side.  The custard was not too sweet and but tasted a bit too much like sweetened egg than an actual custard. I'd say stick to the roll cakes.

The food was delicious with very generous portions. All beautifully plated. The size I didn't expect at all and clearly value for money.  Especially if you go with the dinner sets as majority of what I listed is on there. I heard that lunch is also a deal so will return to try that again.  A beautiful dining experience that I would suggest to anyone from a gathering to a nice date night.
