When I went to visit my godmother during Chinese New Year, she told us that she was having dinner with the aunties at Cubus, and they had to share the elevator with some Koreans going in and out of the building, so she suspects there is probably a new Korean establishment in the building.  Godbro XO and I got into detective mode and found out that there is a new Korean chicken place called The Hwaduk in Cubus!  It's new, so of course godbro XO had to get his hands on their food to write a review

The Hwaduk is located on the 21st floor of the building, and in the elevator lobby, you can find the fiery sign for the restaurant.

As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I saw something that was drastically different from most restaurants in the area; there was ample space between the tables!  I couldn't take pictures of the entire restaurant since there were other patrons seated around the restaurant.  There was this huge roaster oven that we could see through the giant windows separating the kitchen from the dining area!

Since The Hwaduk serves mainly Korean roast chicken, the perfect companion would be a cold beer!  The restaurant serves draft beef, but too bad, I don't usually drink beer!

They even used the beer glasses as part of their decor.

After we were seated, we were served a warm cup of barley tea.

Our flatware was a little peculiar, and XO and I were wondering why we got these tongs instead of knives, but it turned out they worked much better with the chicken!

Since I don't drink beer, I opted for a soju.  The Hwaduk has a choice of flavors for soju, and I chose the Yuja-apple Soju.

The Yuja-apple Soju was quite refreshing, and it wasn't too strong.  It felt like a crossover of apple soju and citron tea since there were shreds of yuja peel in the drink.

XO had his eyes on a squid dish, so I got to choose the chicken dish, and I decided to get the Chicken with Rice Cake.

The Chicken with Rice Cake came with the pickled radish, which was nice and crunchy, but I'd prefer it to be a little sweeter.

The chicken was coated in a tangy sweet sauce that was slightly spicy, which clung onto the crispy chicken skin.  It was a tiny explosion of flavors in my mouth!  I'm not sure if the rice cakes were coated in batter, but they had a crunchy shell that gave another dimension to the texture, so it was crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

This chicken was quite similar to the Korean fried chicken that I used to get in New Jersey, and it definitely brought back memories from 2 years ago when I would get Korean fried chicken and binge watch the Korean drama that started the Korean chicken craze in Hong Kong!

XO saw the poster for the squid fry when he stepped out of the elevator, so he made sure that we ordered it in addition to the chicken.

The Squid Fry was served in one piece, and the server waited till we were done taking pictures to cut it up for us!

The squid had a light crispy batter, and it was quite tender.  The dish came with 2 sauces, the white one was like a light mayo and the red one was a sweet spicy sauce.  The squid and fries were a perfect pairing of finger foods!

I always thought all the restaurants in Cubus were upscale restaurants with a hefty price tag, but The Hwaduk definitely broke that mold!  The food at The Hwaduk is reasonably-priced and delicious as well!  Hopefully, more restaurant will follow in their footsteps, and there will be more hip options in Cubus that won't break the bank!
