Modern Shanghai has always been my go-to for affordable homey Shanghai cuisine. Recently, it has rolled out a series of exclusive dishes at the newest store at The Wai, and below are some of the dishes that impressed:
⭐️ Panfried Xiao Lung Bao ($58/5 pieces)
XLB’s has to be everyone’s favorite and must-order at every Shanghai restaurant, but Modern Shanghai has upped their game by creating this pan fried XLB served on a sizzling hot plate. Swipe to the second picture to see the golden crispy skin at the bottom. They managed to retain ultra thin skin with ample juices inside! 100% MUST TRY!
⭐️Steamed minced pork with mud crab ($588)
Seasoned with shiitake, jinhua ham, chicken kidney, pork and many other ingredients, the minced pork further absorbed all the essences of roe from the mud crab, resulting in an absolutely divine experience.
⭐️Crispy Smoked Chicken ($198/ half, $398/ whole)
Deeply infused with smoky fragrance, succulent and smooth meat, crispy skin, another star dish of the night
⭐️Lychee Shrimp Balls ($68/4)
They do not only look like lychees, but also carry sweet notes from the lychee flesh which was mixed into the shrimp paste
⭐️Winter Melon Pastry ($68)
Do not be mistaken by its name and appearance that these are traditional Chinese pastries that are normally sickeningly sweet. The inside was filled with soft, chewy mochis!
