There's been a recent increase in German dining establishments in Hong Kong, which is very welcome. This seems to be the latest addition. In summary:1. Decent atmosphere, although could have gone with non-resopal/ plastic coated chairs to make a bit more homely and authentic2. Service is efficient, although not always clear on what is on offer, e.g had some trouble getting clarity on the beer promotion, which lead to some issues with the bill3. Food is only mediocre, it just lacks authenticit

There's been a recent increase in German dining establishments in Hong Kong, which is very welcome. This seems to be the latest addition. In summary:

1. Decent atmosphere, although could have gone with non-resopal/ plastic coated chairs to make a bit more homely and authentic
2. Service is efficient, although not always clear on what is on offer, e.g had some trouble getting clarity on the beer promotion, which lead to some issues with the bill
3. Food is only mediocre, it just lacks authenticity,which is hard to understand as most ingredients are available in Hong Kong
a. The pretzels tasted of the pre-baked and heated up variety;
b. Alsace Flammkuchen usually comes in squares (cause it's baked on a tray in the oven), with a thicker base and hearty toppings; this one looked and tasted like the bastard child of a badly prepared Pizza and an Indian Nan bread
c. A proper Schnitzel needs to have a fluffy coating, i.e. there should be some air between the meat and the coating; this one was made with inferior coating
d. The Kaiserschmarrn pancake was just very dry (may have lacked more butter or eggs in the recipe) and came with only a few sorry raisins and almost no almond pieces or powder/ caster sugar

Overall, it's an ok place to try German food if you never have, and it has potential, but it needs some serious work (and maybe someone in the kitchen who knows German food.
