My lunch was at Oliver’s Super Sandwiches today which I tried their baked Potatoes out. The photos on their menu were appealing, so I had a difficult time in making my choice. Oliver’s also offers a choice called Double Jollies, which you can choose two of your favourite toppings among the first eight flavours. The caption ‘Choice of Toppings includes E1-E8’ was real small that I literally missed it, made an invalid combination of choice and had to make another combination of choice when I was a
Appearance - Anyhow, I chose the combination of Bolognaise and Sour Cream. There was a reference photo of E9 printed on the menu, it was a preset Double Jollie of Norwegian Smoked Salmon Salad & Egg Salad. On the printing, there were two huge double ice-cream-liked scoops of topping on top of the baked potatoes with drizzles of spring onions and bacons. Judging from that, I was anticipating something similar. Yet when the baked potato was delivered, the truth revealed and I was totally deceived by the photos. The toppings were not in scoop shape, but two small spreads of toppings on top of a tiny baked potato. Not to mention there was not even a single bit of spring onion or bacon on top of my pure white sour cream. I was very disappointed about the appearance of my baked potatoes. To make my baked potatoes more interesting, I went to the counter and asked for some Parmesan cheese and sprinkled them onto my plain pathetic sour cream topping.
Texture & Taste of Potato - Although waited for a while to have all my colleagues’ lunch delivered on table, the baked potatoes were fortunately still warm. Both the texture of the potato and the potato skin were soft, yet they were also tasteless. It would taste better if they could add some butter on it during baking. Another annoying fact was that they apparently had the potatoes pre-made, and once the order was placed, they would just put whatever toppings on top. What happened was the potato didn’t taste baked but boiled.
Taste of Toppings - Fortunately, the toppings were actually quite nice. The combining taste of sour cream and Bolognaise were tasty, a rather nice choice if you want to have any baked potato in the near future. The Bolognaise was at the right amount of saltiness and the amount of minced beef in the topping was satisfying. The sour cream wasn’t sour at all, and were really great when mixing with the bolognaise paste. Adding the cheese had given the topping pastes a richer flavour overall. Yet it was about the premade issue again, the sauce was not that hot at all. If they had the Bolognaise bakes, it should taste much better.
All in all, the baked potato was just average. The toppings were quite tasty, but I was unsatisfied by the fact that the baked potatoes were all pre-made which was not nicely baked. I was kind of annoyed by the lack of spring onions and bacons on my sour cream topping. I am not going to have Oliver’s baked potatoes ever if I am revisiting the store in the near future, I might however try their spaghetti next time as they looked pretty nice on the menu. (FingerX)
