Art weekend continues and boyfriend and I head to the Asia Contemporary Art Fair at the Conrad. We stop here for lunch as I've tried the original branch and boyfriend didn't. We didn't sit outside as it was super humid and hot even though this place was known for the beautiful al fresco view. Yeah, my years of living in freezing temperatures cannot deal with Hong Kong summers.We were seated quickly. Our table was wobbly and the waiter helped balance it out. Then we ordered. We were seated quickly. Our table was wobbly and the waiter helped balance it out. Then we ordered. The menu is different than the first time I came. They still had the all day breakfasts but they added British bits like fish and chips, bangers and mash. They also had a weekend only menu consisting of pasta and a Sunday roast. Last time I came, I had some daily lunch menu and I thought it was fine. This time I felt like eggs benedict. Boyfriend felt like a full English. We shared.

Eggs benedict was a disappointment. The hollandaise was neither rich, not buttery and where was the lemony tang? I made a better hollandaise once. The poached egg was over cooked. I sliced into it and the yolk didn't flow out completely. The English muffin wasn't toasted.

I ordered an Earl Gray tea latte. It came with a pretty rose on top and the tea bag sitting on top of the huge amount of foam so I had to push my tea bag to the bottom to let it seep properly. Way too much foam to be considered a latte in the first place. They gave me cubes of sugar with a candy flower on them. Which made the sugar extra sweet. It was horrible.

Boyfriend ordered the full English breakfast. A real full English breakfast is usually so huge, you leave so full, you're ready for the day ahead. Portion size here was small. Portobello mushroom was not seasoned. Scrambled eggs weren't fluffy. Hashbrown was hard. Boyfriend never had black pudding and i did warn him it was pork blood sausage. If he didn't like eating intestines and such, he won't be a fan. But willing foodie, he gave it a go and didn't like it so gave it to me. I thought it was a bit under done as it was still too crumbly. The worst thing about this was the sorry excuse for Yorkshire pudding.

Come on! Who are you trying to trick here? The unknowing Hong Kong public who think they are paying $160 for a real British breakfast but are actually paying for a fake all day breakfast served by the majority of local restaurants out there but at least they charge less. Not only was it small, it didn't rise at all. It wasn't soft on the inside, crispy on the outside. It was one cold chewy bit of dough. Perhaps the chef should watch The Great British Bake Off where Mary Berry teaches you how to create the perfect Yorkshire pudding.

Service was spotty. We waved our hands to order and to leave. Both times, someone nodded, but then they never got back to us so we had to wave again.

Bricklane is a disappointment. It's beautiful decor draws you in. But then the food disappoints. Plus the poor service. I would say I won't return but I know people who like these types of restaurants so if I'm with them, I'll be back.
