I saw the impressive signage of PappaRich at L. Place in Sheung Wan and wanna try it someday. Luckily they have a new branch in Causeway Bay up on the 4th Floor. It was the peak dinner hours and the queue for the lift extended right to the street. This branch has a much lower ceiling and tighter seating. The professionally designed menu was a joy to read. Choices were abundant although some menu items are only available at the Sheung Wan headquarters. For mains, I’ve always been fond of laksa with its rich coconut taste and slight spiciness. Hubby chose Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang as he likes the fried little fishes. We also ordered satay chicken and mutton and ABC shredded ice dessert.

The satay was really delectable. The crispy meat with charcoal taste was further enhanced by the richness of peanut in the satay sauce. It’s finger licking good and we wanna mopped up every bit of the sauce on the plate with the cucumber slice garnish. A bit pricey but still worth it. The couple sitting next to us even ordered an encore. My seafood curry laksa was very rich and yummy with the right balance of coconut and curry. I learned that the flavor of laksa has wide regional variations, and the coconut version is only one of them. I like they use fried noodles and rice vermicelli instead of the all-too-common rice noodles. The prawn needed some effort to be shelled and tasted ok, can do well without the deep-dried bean curd sheets though.

ABC is a form of shredded ice dessert with soft and crunchy toppings with a dash of peanut and palm sugar syrup to create a clash of flavours. The portion was quite big and felt very cold to finish, not that impressive in terms of taste.

I would look forward to trying the crab dishes and have much more satay.
