anyone who has studied abroad in places like europe or north america should have come across an authentic pho.  good vietnamese restaurant is the by-product of the vietnamese refugee situation back in the days.  as one of my vietnamese friends joked restaurants abroad might have better quality since the cooking technique is the same with only better ingredients.

hong kong is no exception as it was once home to many vietnam people.  my good old memory of pho was reminded when i visited pho yum for the first time.  aside from the beef and noodles, the beef stock was filled with the smell of the right ingredients such as star anise, cinnamon, cilantro, basil, scallions, and ginger.  i personally think that it is a true value for money deal in mongkok.

if you get sick and tired of the char chan tang in mongkok, pho might be one of the next best choices around the block.  other than the pho, i think the lemongrass pork chop over rice is another bank for the bucks; the rest of the menu is just mediocre to my taste...until then, pho is yummy as the restaurant name suggests.
