I've been a mega fan of Ryugin in Roppongi ... and almost always dine there when visiting Tokyo. I couldn't have been happier when I learnt that it opened its first overseas branch at ICC and despatched a crew of chefs to Hong Kong to ensure top quality. I've been to the ICC branch three times. Food was as good as its main restaurant in Tokyo ... the difference was the ambience and noise. The Tokyo restaurant, located at the basement of a very low profile building in Roppongi, is tastely decorated but not luxurious. The ICC restaurant is probably the opposite ... it's at L101 of ICC, has a commanding view of Hong Kong's skyline and features some very high end Japanese decor. All these are fine except that the designer clearly has not considered the audio impact of the venue (high ceiling and very bad echo) and the fact that Hong Kong connosseurs tend to be loud when dining (I am not passing a judgement here but it's a fact), particularly with a group of like-minded foodies. It's so loud that two out of my three visits I thought I was in a dim sum restaurant and I had to ask for change of table (the best table is the one nearest the entrance from an audio perspectives; in both cases the restaurant manager was very apologetic but could do nothing about his loud customers). On my third visit it was a business dinner so I asked for its small private room which seated four people. That's a perfect occasion. Private, quiet and excellent food. Given that on average this restaurant cost more than HKD2,000 - 3,000 per head incl wine, I must say the overall experience is not worth it. I will continue to frequent Ryugin in Roppongi but will avoid the ICC branch.

BS For those who are hoping for a romantic dinner in Kowloon this is really not the most reliable venue ... You should consider Tosca in the same building instead ....
