For the price and positioning of the restaurant, my date -- a food aficionado and skillful cook -- and I both thought the service had been substandard and food low quality.I got to the restaurant first and ordered a glass of wine, which came shockingly in a glass with a clear lip mark! I got to the restaurant first and ordered a glass of wine, which came shockingly in a glass with a clear lip mark! I complained, the glass and wine were replaced, but interestingly, the waiter who handled it displayed not an ounce of regret, as if business was usual. Hmmm.
For the night, we ordered prosciutto, carpaccio, risotto, spring chicken, lamb chop, a bottle of wine, and for dessert, americano cafe, expresso, creme brulee, and tiramisu.
The items we took in without complaints were prosciutto, wine, coffees, and creme brulee. All other dishes had issues related clearly to culinary techniques (as opposed to customer preference).
Carpaccio - came massively on a large plate. Volume yes, taste no. Where is that touch of seasoning? Where is the beef?
Risotto - the taste was good, yet the texture less creamy than expected. Fine. But the rice was just under al dente! Wha? Does the kitchen not have a clock?
Spring Chicken - very aromatic, pleasant to the nose. But was it yummy? No. The meat was dry and tasteless. Where is the herb beyond those on the surface?
Lamb chop - done to the ordered medium rare. Nice timing. Looked good, but... the taste was bland. Where is reasoning? Where is the lamb?
Tiramisu - Beautiful cake. Nice presentation. Yet the substance... the ladyfingers were soaked thru alright, but the richness-in-taste to wetness ratio is low low low. Where did the coffee and liquor go?
Thankfully, the evening was still lovely and not a second wasted. But, that had all to do with the person next to me, and nth to do with the food on the table... Wait, not completely true, as the dishes did serve as a constant source of amusement for those three hours memorably spent at Giando last night.
