Pastry shops are one in a dozen in Hong Kong, but the problem is finding unique dessert creations apart from your standard chocolate cake or matcha  tart. Hironobu Tsujiguchi aims to bring an end to that by introducing his creative pastries to Hong Kong, in what is his first foreign venture. I sampled several cakes from his extensive range and loved all of them. Standouts included the chocolate cake with fig puree, introducing another layer of flavour and giving a fruity twist to a classic dessert. The Mont Blanc is also probably one of the best in town, utilising real chestnut puree which is hand churned for a silky smooth texture and allows for the fragrant nutty flavour to emerge. I was also lucky enough to get my hands on Tsujiguchi-san's matcha truffles which was sold out within the first few days of opening - not surprising, since Tsujiguchi has won the prestigious Salon de Chocolat award for the sixth year in a row. An intensely complex matcha flavour gives way to light yet punchy sake notes which lingers in the palette long after. Overall, loved what Super Sweets Gallery brings to the dessert scene here in Hong Kong and hopefully paves the way for everyone to up their standards!
