Thus far, I've been surprised by this little shop called Epoch. A few months ago, I wasn't expecting much, but was treated with a cup of nice, thick and hot chocolate -- somewhat inferior but similar to what you'd get at Vero or Pascucci .
This time, it was the other extreme, a cup of what I'd call 茶记 hot chocolate -- lukewarm, watery, very sweet but otherwise tasteless. Quite a shock. It was a wonder that Valrhona chocolate could be made so bland -- the chocolaty flavour was all gone.
And I was charged $40 for such a cup of warm chocolate.
Maybe the owner and the staff of Epoch need to be reminded that it could take a thousand cup of perfect hot chocolate / coffee to build a reputation and a few disastrous ones to ruin it.
As a side note, it seemed that my locust friend's caffe latte wasn't any better.
P.S. Another disappointment was that when we visited, there was no crepe, no seven-layered chocolate cake and among all the desserts listed in the menu, only four were available. Duh.
