- the latter, I only began writing about because someone ought to point out that we were getting duped by some bad coffees on the market, putting us a bit behind the rest of the world via bad palate training. Bad alcohol however is harder to come by, it being a more consistent product. I remember one of my past habits of bar hopping around towns and searching for the award winning cocktails, created by accoladed bar tenders, these same guys/girls normally also quite passionate about everything in life. A really ingenious cocktail creation is something you tend to remember for a long time! Generally speaking it can prove difficult to locate bars that carry a selection of engaging and innovative cocktails, considering the 'molecular gastronomy' trend has already caught on in the drinks world but its nowhere to be seen in Hong Kong (except may be FINDS in Lan Kwai Fong). One therefore recognises instantly from the menu, that Room One Bar and Lounge is on a planned trajectory course to proving itself an undisputed leader in this area in Hong Kong. It reminds me of W Hotel's lounge too, where I've also had some very satisfactying cocktails. One of the secret formulas required for the making of a successful Boutique Hotel then, seems directly correlatable to having a good cocktail list!

I wasn't entirely planning to visit here as Dinner was looming. After persuasion by a passionate staff member's introduction to their posh lounge bar, a promise of Happy Hour 1-for-1 offer until 8pm and a quick glimpse of the Drinks Menu revealing the aggresive list with a mid section comprised entirely of adventurous Cocktails - made from real fruit juices, sakes and an array of interesting ingredients... it proved once again too hard to pass up the opportunity. I shall down a few quick ones! DINNER CAN WAIT!

(1) Blueberry Vanilla Mojito -
A twist on the more usual 'minty' drink, this was served in a slightly fluted collins. I'm not going to decribe this fully as a spoiler and ruining your surprise, but I highly enjoyed this drink. Perhaps it could do with a little more than 1 tumbler shot of Vodka?

Grapefruit Sabi -
What happens when you mix foam with a touch of wasabi? Well you'll really need to try to find out, its an eye watering experience but great fun! Served in a slightly improvised Martini glass, a slightly acidic grapefruit base with orange zest, blackberry liquor interlaced with a 'fine' citrusy foam spiked with wasabi is very addictive. A greatpre-dinner drink. Its also suitable for ladies.

Note: You can also get free Wi-fi access if you're a guest of the Bar or as a customer of the COCO cake shop. Ask for the updated validation code.
