Dinner and we weren't sure where to eat as every where had long queues of people. We ended up at the new food court at T.O.P. From all the stalls, this place, 古早台居, was the second most popular (oher than Popeye's). Serving Taiwanese food for a cheap price, we decided to give it a try.Menu is in English and Chinese. For $9, you can add a snack if you order a main. We shared Fried Cuttlefish Balls. These were actually good though sadly the only thing that was good from everything we ordered. I guess it's hard to go wrong from items that are reheated from pre-packaged food items.
There is an option to order a drink at a discounted price. Boyfriend ordered a Taro Latte ($13 on the left) and I had the Passionfruit Green Tea ($8 on the right). The passionfruit green tea was ok. Just sweet sugary drink. But boyfriend's taro latte was terrible. It tasted like milk powder with taro powder mixed with water. He ended up not finishing it and he rarely doesn't finish his drink.
Boyfriend had the Fried Salted Squid with Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice ($46). This was so terrible. The squid was hard to chew and not much flavor despite it said salted on the menu. The braised pork was just overly salty and mostly fat.
I ordered the Braised Beef Brisket with Taiwanese Noodles ($56). This was not that great. Soup didnt really taste much like beef. The brisket was tough. One of the worst I've ever had.
I don't often expect much from a food court, but this was one of the worst I've ever had. The food tasted terrible. Yes, price wasn't too expensive but I'd definitely not be back.
