lunch with family on a weekday - it was packed, but we booked a table in advance.lunch sets are surprisingly good deals! for $125 (before service charge) it includes an appetizer, main course, dessert AND a drink (standard coffee or tea) the menu changes everyday, but on that day the appetizer choices were mushroom cream soup, thai fish cake or fruit salad. there were about 5 main course choices and a chosen dessert. dad ordered a bottle of pinot grigio (italian white wine) which was really chea

had a bite of thai fish cakes - it was made with real fish, the cake flaked with every bite. i was a bit disappointed with the crust though - it was golden brown and looked like it will have a slight crisp and smokey taste to it but it didn't; the crust was moistened - but unintentionally. bean sprouts with a dash of sweet sour dressing (the ubiquitous one served in thai restaurants) cushioned it; i enjoyed that more than the cake itself!
i ordered from the a la carte menu - a flaming chicken fajita. it came sizzling on a cast iron plate, with sauteed onions and bell peppers at the bottom, and a generous portion of chargrilled chicken breast on top - parts of the breast was tender and juicy but parts were dry and stringy. the flavor consistently fresh. it was served with a side platter of soft tortillas and garnish - guacamole, sour cream (the whole fat, creamier, firm kind), salsa and jalapenos. the jalapenos were surprisingly NOT spicy?! enjoyed the salsa the most; it was made by hand (not premade); the tomatoes were fresh and the spice blend was flavorful and refreshing.
someone ordered grilled lamb skewers which was served with a tabbouleh as a side dish. i had a piece of the lamb - it was simply grilled with black pepper and salt; the grilling sealed the original flavors well which was released with a bite; the meat was not too fatty and definitely not bone-dry.
dessert was mud cake - in my opinon chocolate cake with milk chocolate frosting. it looked nice; i am not a big fan of chocolate so i didn't have any.
they serve illy coffee - illy is quite a reputable coffee producer, uses purely arabica beans and only has 3 roasts - regular, dark or decaf. i guess mine was dark; it was not acidic, had a hint of woody undertone to it; the aftertaste was not too strong but it did last a while. a piece of almond biscotti came with it.
thoroughly enjoyed a pleasant 2-hour lunch here; atmosphere is quite lively, perhaps even a bit noisy but within tolerable limits. service is attentive and quick but the waitress who served us was a bit impolite; our 'thank yous' for taking our orders and serving drinks were completely ignored.
strongly recommend this restaurant for a leisurely lunch!
