Came to the lovely Mira to attend a wedding banquet that was held at the grand ballroom.The space for the wedding was pretty good. Spacious seating with no columns blocking the view of the stage. Large screens for viewing the wedding videos that were displayed.Lab Made Ice Cream. While waiting for the banquet to start, I had ice cream from Lab Made who did the refreshments catering. There were two flavors to choose from and I chose salty caramel with crunchy stars places on top. Salty and sweet

Lab Made Ice Cream. While waiting for the banquet to start, I had ice cream from Lab Made who did the refreshments catering. Salty and sweet is my favorite combination. so this was real good and a much better alternative than having a piece of the wedding cake. Too bad the rest of the meal wasn't as good as the ice cream. Roast Suckling Pig. Though the skin was crispy the whole thing was oddly cold. Seriously ... like ice cold. Sauteed Prawns with Sliced Honey Yunnan Ham and Vegetables. The ham was super sweet from being coated in honey. The prawn were fresh and perfectly cooked. However, the vegetables were a bit oily. Baked Chicken Meat and Onion Stuffed in Conch Shell with Portugese Sauce. This was pretty tasty. I liked it enough as the chicken meat was moist. The sauce was rich. Braised Whole Conpoy in Marrow Ring with Bamboo Pith. This dish also had a side of alfalfa sprouts. The conpoy was not braised enough so it was so hard, I couldn't swallow it so left most of it on the plate. Too bad as everything else was fine. Double Boiled Conch Soup with Morel Mushrooms and Fish Maw. This soup was fantastic. It was rich in flavor without being too heavy. The addition of morel mushrooms gave it a woody taste to it. Braised Abalone Slice with Black Mushrooms and Vegetables. This was ok. The abalone slice was moist and soft. Steamed Spotted Garoupa. The fish was sweet and cooked to perfection. It was not overcooked at all. Something that is hard to come by for banquet food. Roasted Crispy Chicken with Osmanthus Sauce. Chicken was moist and I liked the sweet coating it had. The prawn cracker was chewy. Steamed Rice With Assorted Meat and Conpoy in Abalone Sauce wrapped in Lotus Leaf. The rice was packed with flavor from the abalone sauce. There was plenty of diced pork throughout the rice. Pan Fried Shrimp Dumplings Served in Superior Broth. Yes, the menu really said superior broth. I don't know how superior it was but it was just used for dipping the fried dumplings. The dumplings, on the other hand, were really good. Crispy skin that wasn't too thick. Filled with sweet shrimp bits. Sweet Soup with Glutinous Rice Dumplings, Red Date, Lotus Seed, Lily Bulb and Longan. The dessert wasn't too sweet and it came with two black sesame dumplings. A nice light dessert to end the evening. Steamed Red Date Pudding with Coconut Cream and Deep Fried Custard Dumpling. The red date pudding was soft and sweet. But I wasn't a big fan of the fried custard dumpling. It was a bit hard to bite into, making me wonder if it was fried a bit too long. There was also a fresh fruit platter but I was too full at that point so stopped there.
Overall the food was ok but not great. But what I want to write about is the service. For a 5 star hotel, I would have expected the service to be better than what we got. All food was divided for us and brought over. The staff was in such a rush, that they were practically throwing hte plates down in front of us. We all feared that food would spill on us, we gave the waiter plenty of room when he came around. For the soup course, the waiter had spilled half the soup onto the plate below for my coworker beside me, making the entire soup spoon dripping wet. The staff didn't bother to apologize or offer to replace my coworker's spoon. My coworker just quietly wiped the spoon with her napkin. Water was not refilled at all. Food was taken away before finished and returned again when realiized it wasn't done. Very disappointing service for a hotel. If it wasn't a hotel of this standard, I wouldn't be so annoyed. But this is the Mira. I expected a bit more.
