Had one of the worst hostess experience for any dinning restaurant in Hong Kong.
We booked a reservation of 7 with almost full payment deposit and while 5 of us arrived 10mins prior to our booking time. We were asking to stand between the “ramen” with other guest eating and in front of a visual freezer. I then asked the only female hostess if I could request cooked medium well for my fiancée who is pregnant. She rudely answered (why didn’t you request when you book?) maybe because it wasn’t me who made the reservations? She stormed while playing with her phone and walked into a fridge sliding which which takes you from the ramen side into Waygu Mafia open bar. Because we were asked to stand in front of the fridge, while she opened the sliding door it hit me once without acknowledging it and 5 more times where it would’ve hit me if I didn’t take a step back seeing she wouldn’t care if it would slammed into me. She then comes out after 2mins went by standing a inch in front of my fiancée and asked with her 2FINGERS POINTING LESS THAN A INCH at my finances (Okay no rare meat, salad? Salad okay?) at that point if we weren’t a party of 7 we would’ve left the restaurant by then. She then went over to my female friend who made the reservation and asked (How long until your friends arrive?) we answered two minutes and she ROLLED HER EYES WHITE and made this 3secs “gruhhhhh” sound and walked out the restaurant and started to play with her phone.
In any restaurants defense it’s rude and all guest should arrive at their reservation time. But when any guest fail to do so it’s no reason to hold personal attitude nor grudges towards any customers. And this was all happening within 10mins.
After everyone arrived she showed us all in together into the fridge where we we “technically” starts the dinning experience. But before everyone got in she grabbed and pulled my female friend from one corner to another saying (I asked you to not stand there because I’ve to be at this spot to show you the fridge) this was past our patients. First you point fingers now you’re grabbing a customer and shoving her from one corner to another within a tight room of 8 people. Truly unacceptable.
Funny fact, she passed a shots (sake) and said (To begin the experience we have a xxxx sake shot) then passes one each and also to my pregnant fiancée saying (It’s okay right? It’s just a little bit). Who in the right mind passes alcohol to a pregnant miss?
When we got out of the room she then once again grabs my female friend and say you can leave your shopping bags and box on this counter before being seated. She was furious and felt completely disrespected and all of us were hoping the experience could be different once we were seated.
After we all sat down, she walked over maybe without any heads up to me, she shoves my seat really hard and fast that I was so caught by surprised and had to held both my hands tight on the table thinking it was a prank. Afterward she left without saying anything and our open kitchen dinning starts.
It was great knowing that 3 chefs came to introduce themselves after we were seated, knowing this experience would be totally different than how we just got served. The chef started by introducing our main course beef and how it was about to be cooked. It was amazing to see what we were about to eat and they were really passionate introduce what every dishes were, what’s inside and different ways of eating it along with their homemade sauce and preferred condiments.
Chefs and quality of the food were great, every chef was really passionate about their signature pose and wanted to have more communications with every guest which I love it.
Although we were roughly 10mins late to start, every chefs had a smile through their mask and were really helpful with serving knowing my fiancée requested her meat to be cooked additionally well. We also had a chance to take photos with chefs after dessert was served inside the kitchen and it did make the whole package felt better.
After we had our dessert and photos with the chef, I saw the hostess across room and had her mask down smiling chit chatting with another customer. At that point I was certain that the whole experience she gave me and my friends we all due to personal grudges instead of a poorly mannered trained staff. Extremely disappointed.
Conclusion I think many restaurants nowadays miss the concept that every dinning experience with any customer starts when they make a reservation not when they’re being seated. And this particular one missed a big Oppsies with how they welcome any guest. Knowing the bill per guest was around 3k (before we ordered sake) this pricing show be showing a lot more hospitality for what we were paying.
And this has to be the worst hostess I’ve came across and no words could describe the feeling for paying a high end restaurant to eat and have someone that works there pointing finger at your pregnant fiancée.
