Not just waffles!

It has been my 5th year living at western HK. I am super excited of the recent opening of Sai Ying Pun and Kennedytown Mtr line! The western district has changed a lot compared to the time when I first moved in. It was considered as the older part of HK. You can find shops selling dried food, dessert shop that has opened for more than 100 years old. It has been my 5th year living at western HK. I am super excited of the recent opening of Sai Ying Pun and Kennedytown Mtr line! The western district has changed a lot compared to the time when I first moved in. It was considered as the older part of HK. You can find shops selling dried food, dessert shop that has opened for more than 100 years old. Ever since the construction of MTR station, a lot of these old shops have been replaced by new restaurants, the kind that you'll find in Soho, Central. As a person from the 90s, I am slightly saddened as the old shops close but I am excited to see how the new shops lightup this old town with blasting energy. 

One day afterschool my friends and I decided to try out the Kennedytown station and explore the food around. Waffling beans immediately caught my attention. I LOVE waffles, pancakes, all that. And waffling beans has the right name to catch my eyes. It was around 6 and we felt like having early dinner. We were about to leave as we thought it was just a cafe selling waffles. Refused to leave just that, I checked out the menu by the door and I was so happy that it served food! real food for dinner that is. So we decided to have it a go!

 A lovely place to chill after a long day of school/work. Have a cuppa coffee and let the acoustic music to unwind you. The restaurant was playing "Just the way you are- cover by anthem lights" when I walked in.

 I really appreciate the interior decor of the restaurant- especially the use of lighting with paper lamps of special geometrical shapes and the neon light that says "take your time" in reverse.

 The best mushroom cream soup i've ever tasted! Soup base was thick but not by cream but by all the tiny bits of mushroom. I can smell the aroma of mushroom as soon as it was served on my table

 Highly recommended by the restaurant. You can hardly tell what's inside the fried ball until u open it! To my surprise, it is mushroom risotto! coated with bread crumbs before it gets fried!! I've never had anything like that before. Worth a try! but i prefer the old traditional mushroom risotto ^^

 Beetroot- a new love on the top list for healthy food! All my fitness friends go crazy for beetroot. This lovely pink veggie is stuffed with antioxidants to get your skin silkly smooth. A very fresh and healthy salad if you don't mind getting your teeth pink! >< An great dish to share wtih your girlfriends but not your crush i guess

 Ribs that had been brewed in coffee for HOURS before it is served, giving a nice, soft texture. I couldn't taste the coffee in the meat. It was a bit bland without the sauce. Interesting combination with waffle which can be improved by making the waffle more fluffy.

 Always my fav spaghetti to order, i like the flavor solely by humble ingredients of olive oil, garlic and cheese. The spaghetti was slightly overcooked and bland.

 Finally came my highly anticipated dessert!! Recommended by the restaurant was 7th heaven. With strawberry waffle and belgium chocolate flakes. I like that this dessert wasn't too sweet. The chocolate flakes add a nice texture and slight bitter-sweet flavor. Waffle was cripsy on the outside but not soft enought inside. >< overall i was happy with this dessert but i would be happiER If there is a scope of chocolate/vanilla icecream ^^ hehe talk about being greedy eh?

Refreshing drink by an interesting combi of apple and pineapple juice! Didnt know that they come together so well

 Perfect beer for ladiesss. If you're not a typical beer person because of the bitterness, this one is for you
Beer with slight sweet/sour plum like taste. I failed to find this from local supermarket in HK / \ I'll be back for this!!!

Scrimshaw USA craft beer, $60, 6/10Not a beer lover but this one is easy on the ladies. Not bitter at all! 

Overall: 7/10 Recommend waffle dessert, belgium beer and mushroom soup!

當窩夫遇上咖啡

 安坐後先來兩款Signature Summer Chill飲品, 包括有Apple & Pineapple Summer Fragrance ($48) 和 Grapes & Orange Infused Juice ($48)。本人試了後者, 味道清新, 帶有微酸, 而甜度剛剛好, 但加入了一些肉桂, 感覺有點特別。

 這裏主打是窩夫當然要先試試Original Plain Belgian Liege Waffles, 別以為老闆是台灣人便製作台式窩夫, 她竟選了比利時窩夫, 不論樣子、口感、味道都有別於台式窩夫, 真是在港數一數二。原味甜窩夫外表圓圓的, 上面唧了朱古力醬, 再簡簡單單以清甜的士多啤梨作拌碟。窩夫外層不算脆口, 口感屬煙韌, 還帶點糖粒, 對於此口感本人不太喜好。

 本以為來到這裏只是品嚐窩夫和咖啡, 想不到驚喜萬分, 這裏菜式選擇眾多, 還有多款特式小食, 不得不逐一介紹。
先有Wild Mushroom & Parmesan Risotto Balls ($86) , 圓碌碌的意大利飯波, 個個大小相若, 外層不算香脆反而帶點煙韌, 相信是混入了一些五穀類, 很有o趙口。內裏除了有粒粒濕潤的意大利飯外, 還加了不少菇菌碎粒, 整體口感豐富, 很有特色的小食, 吃時蘸一些自家製Tzatziki sauce, 更添美味!

 接著是Pan-Fried Chilli Garlic Shrimp ($98), 彎彎曲曲的蝦排成一列, 舖滿了紅辣椒絲、蒜粒和蔥花, 碟底有辣油, 本以為會辣至噴火, 但吃下去辣度剛好, 很惹味, 但可惜蝦肉略為結實, 不太爽口彈牙!

 來多一款炸小吃Herbed Fish Goujons with Chili-Lemon Aioli ($77), 幼長的魚柳炸至外層金黃香脆, 內裏的魚肉則保持雪白而嫩滑, 絶不乾硬, 亦不感油膩, 同樣吃時蘸一些Tzatziki sauce, 內有粒粒酸瓜, 酸咪咪很美味, 兩者很匹配, 推介!

 吃了一輪小食, 喝一杯湯才再戰主菜, 是日為Wild Mushroom Soup。用一個小杯盛載着, 湯面放了少許酸忌廉和一支香草, 簡簡單單的裝飾, 但已增添它的吸引力。野菌湯口感濃厚, 忌廉味香濃, 啖啖都有粒粒野菌碎, 充足菌香, 口感層次豐富之餘, 味道亦不錯。

 輪到主菜出場, 我在餐牌中看到它已很想試, 就是Oh! My Ribs ($178)。這份主菜原本配一件窩夫, 但因陸續還有很多不同款式的窩夫出場, 故減去它。大大件的肋骨以咖啡醃足72小時, 肉質尚算腍嫩, 但可惜咖啡味不算突出, 吃時可蘸BBQ醬汁或加入了薄荷的Tzatziki sauce。兩者中我較喜歡BBQ醬汁, 甜甜地更配合, 至於肋骨下的厚切薯條炸得外層香脆, 內裏厚厚而粉腍的薯肉, 相當不錯。

 近排潮食韓式炸雞, 竟然這裏亦有炸雞供應。另一款主菜是Waffler’s F.C. ($148), 雞件外層炸至金黃, 但不算脆口, 而肉質亦不算嫩滑, 至於味道方面, 它帶有濃濃的香草味, 相信混入了不少不同種類的香草。配菜則有沙律菜和紫洋蔥, 本人最欣賞是這些弄得爽口清甜的紫洋蔥, 美味得差不多被我吃光。

 登登登登......主打列日窩夫來啦! 不論賣相、味道、口感都各俱特色, 款款都帶來驚喜。先介紹鹹甜交界的款式, 共有兩款。
Pear-Up, Double-Cheese Down ($83)相賣相當吸引, 真的忍不住想快快試一口。窩夫上放了絲絲香甜的紫洋蔥, 中間爽着甜美多汁的啤梨件, 頂層則是已溶化的濃郁車打芝士, 再淋了一些楓糖黑醋汁, 一款食物包含了鹹、甜、酸, 真是滋味十足。

 另一款是Sir Hamsalot ($82), 以爽甜的蘋果片、鹹香的厚切烤豬後腿肉和香濃的希臘羊奶芝士配窩夫, 再淋上一些楓糖醬, 更添甜美。總覺得整個配搭最適合於早餐時段點選, 豐富得來亦不會過於飽肚, 營養十足。

 接着就是期待以久的鹹窩夫, 同樣試了兩款。
先來單蛋一隻的Plate of Apollo ($89)。完美的太陽蛋, 充滿朝氣, 輕輕一碰, 蛋汁除除滲入整份窩夫內。內裏配有大量的蔬菜, 包括有鮮紅的蕃茄、清甜的紫洋蔥和翠綠的菠菜葉, 碟旁還放了數粒橄欖和粒粒香濃的希臘羊奶芝士, 極至豐富而健康。

 輪到雙蛋的Farmer’s Delight ($80)。兩雙鮮黃色的太陽蛋下放了數片鹹香的煙肉, 吃時可淋上一些楓糖, 為它稍稍添加一點甜。
吃過這兩款鹹味的窩夫, 發現窩夫的味道和質感與之前原味的窩夫有點不同, 鹹味的窩夫烤得外層帶點香脆, 入口煙韌中帶點軟綿綿, 相當不錯!

 店主還為我們準備了是日甜品, 是自家製海綿芝士蛋糕($38), 面層是燒至帶點焦燶的焦糖；中間則是香濃的忌廉芝士, 口感幼滑; 餅底是用了軟綿綿的海綿蛋糕, 故中和了芝士的飽滯感, 令其變得輕宜, 吃多兩口都不怕。

 最後, 由老闆親手示範濾杯手沖咖啡, 令我大開眼界。製作手沖咖啡需講求咖啡豆的質素、水温、手藝、沖水速度和滴濾時間等, 因應個別客人的口味而作出調較, 以創製一杯獨一無二的手沖咖啡。今日老闆所泡製手沖咖啡果酸味較重, 帶有微甘, 易於入口。

 本人仍不足喉, 很想試試這裏的意式咖啡, 故點了一杯Hot Almond Cappuccion($42)。雖用了脫脂奶, 但奶打得很幼滑, 一點粗泡都沒有, 所拉的心形花花仍挺身, 清晰而優美。至於味道方面, 咖啡味和杏仁味相當平均, 兩者都沒有蓋過對方, 每口都散發着淡淡的杏仁香, 很不錯!

離開咖啡店都已八時多, 柔和的燈光配上輕柔的音樂, 在小小的空間內感覺很舒服, 看着公關為我們忙碌了一個下午, 真的替她辛苦, 但她滿有活力的樣子, 每事都親力親為, 可見她對工作的熱誠, 真的很感謝她的悉心安排和招待, 很高興在這小店遇上她。
