A bit of an irrelevant background to start off. We were walking down this street last weekend and we spotted Wilfred Lau parking his vehicle on the street. He was talking somewhat loudly to his friend and was wearing a loud pink shirt - he was a bit hard to miss. We saw him disappear into this food joint (we think) and we walked on to the hospital.
Anyway, two nights later we were searching for something to eat around that area, and we wandered onto this street. Suddenly I suggested that we should try the joint that Wilfred Lau patronised (for the sake of it, I'm not an avid celeb stalker, honest!) and stumbled into here.
After a bit of dillying dallying and contemplating what to eat, I ordered a spring onion and chicken leg rice, while the boy ordered pork neck nice. We also ordered a chilli & salt chicken wings.
Both dishes came out and I was impressed by the smell and appearance of the spring onion and chicken leg rice. The steamed chicken leg was drizzled with spring onion slices and a sprinkle of shallots (?), with the base of the tin dish swimming with soy sauce. It's wonderful to use the soy sauce to mix with the rice. That plus the chicken and a little chopstick amount of spring onion is simply divine.
Didn't try the pork neck rice, but he said it was average.
The chicken wings was very nice and tasty, but the price of $20 for three puny chicken middle wings was not justified.
The chicken rice was so good, we came back the following night for an encore. He ordered the chicken rice while I decided to be different and ordered a curry beef brisket rice. The chicken rice was just as good as last night, and the smell of curry was lovely as it wafted through the air and the dish arrived at our table. The taste of curry was nice and strong, with a touch of spice on its end note (if there is such word), although they were lacking in vegetables. It would be nice to throw in like tomatoes to mix the flavour up a bit.
The iced lemon tea was heavenly too - not watery, not too bitter and not just full of sugary water, it was a nice balance between tea, lemon and sugar. Drank it on both nights and couldn't have enough of it.
Would be happy to have a nosh-up here anytime.
