As with most others, we went to Wooden Table (WT)because we'd heard that it was affiliated to Pumpernickel. 'Affiliated' they indeed are, (apparently they are under the same management??) but similar they are not. To say that WT is even remotely related to Pumpernickel is an insult (to Pumpernickel, not WT). True, they use bread from Pumpernickel, but only the least expensive variety of foccaccia (which was cut up too early and left to dry).
The quality of the food and service here are ridiculously low. We went for a 1-person set dinner that included a salad to start with. The salad was meant to have prawns, mango, asparagus and baby potatoes. It came without the asparagus nor the potatoes! The main of roasted pork was described to be some special variety of pork, but honestly, it was so dry and covered in HK-style 'red' sauce that I wouldn't have known if they'd given me soggy cardboard.
Then came dessert - we were quietly and desperately hoping that the desserts would salvage them so we could at least keep them on our list for afternoon tea - but no... they had to screw up every single one of our orders. Only one of the six orders were correct. Even when the confusion was rectified, the desserts weren't that great.
I won't even go on about them pouring water all over my napkin, and their absolute ignorance about the wines they had on offer.
I cannot possibly bring myself to believe that they are part of Pumpernickel. If they are, then they should disown them or radically improve them as soon as possible, else I fear that Pumpernickel's reputation will be left in ruins before too long.
