For the longest time, White Goats Coffee Shop had been one of the few coffee shops around in Tuen Mun. Nowadays, of course, many new cafes have popped up and there's plenty of choices to choose from. I had been here once three years ago, and this weekend as I explored Tuen Mun, I was happy to see that this cafe is still around - and doing quite well - despite all the new competition. Their prices are hard to beat, and probably one of the cheapest places in Hong Kong for a coffee. You can get a 7
I had been here once three years ago, and this weekend as I explored Tuen Mun, I was happy to see that this cafe is still around - and doing quite well - despite all the new competition. Their prices are hard to beat, and probably one of the cheapest places in Hong Kong for a coffee. You can get a 700ml Americano for just $29. Their milk based espresso drinks are more expensive, but even the most expensive ones are only $39 for 700ml of coffee! Trust me, 700ml is a lot of coffee - it’s about the same size as a Starbucks venti cup!
Boyfriend and I ordered a coffee and cake each. It was the perfect mid-day pick me up. The coffee was decent and the cakes were refreshing.
The affordable price of the coffees should you give you some idea of what to expect in terms of vibes and decor. You can clearly see the age of the furnishings. The cafe has a white colour theme, and the upkeep of white coloured things can be tough. The white lighting inside the cafe is also a little jarring, and in my opinion it cheapens the vibe - it makes me feel like I'm in a cha chaan teng. For this reason, I can't see myself sitting here for long periods of time, but for a 30 min pit stop in the middle of the day? Definitely.
Nevertheless, the staff were friendly and we had a very pleasant time. Most of the customers here seem to be regulars who come from all walks of life - I saw students, young couples, cyclists, and a few older folks. There was an older gentleman who bought some of their coffee beans before leaving, which gave me some assurance of their coffee quality.
Definitely worth a try if you're in the area. In a city like Hong Kong, where the food scene changes rapidly all the time, it's nice to still be able to visit and support an 'OG' cafe.
