Strolling around Sai Kung Town on a fine Spring day is bound to make anyone hungry. With the plethora of choices in the small hamlet, it’s hard to know where to go. Should I nestle up seaside and enjoy the Chinese-style Seafood restaurants? Perhaps the main square with several Western restaurants? Even considering the question worked up an appetite. So it was with great joy that I spied the outdoor picnic tables in front of Casa Sai Kung. Mid-day wasn’t too busy so we grabbed a few tapas to enjoy as the sea air blew past us. We chose Buffalo Cauliflower with Bleu Cheese Sauce, 60HKD to start. The cauliflower is covered (not drenched) in a buffalo sauce that is generally mild to the taste. Consistency of the cauliflower was ok…it would have been a bit nicer had it retained a bit more of it’s crunch, but all in all the dish was good, and the bleu cheese dip paired nicely with the cauliflower.
Next, we tried the Okonomiyaki, 70HKD. As a true Japanese lover (I lived in Hiroshima for 2+ years, a city renowned for it’s okonomiyaki), these did NOT do it for me. But the sauce was authentic and the presentation was nice, so I forgave the flavour, especially since Casa is not a Japanese restaurant. Valiant effort.
Beer was out of the question at the time, but it was good to see they had a decent beer selection. I can see how Casa could be a great place to hang out with friends and pass the time munching on reasonably-sized tapas and delightful drinks. I may just have to visit once more.
題外話/補充資料:
*唔食辣的要講明. 因為佢D野食有少少辣.
*probably the servers were a little too busy, the service was generally approachable but not attentive enough
for the rest, food/ environment was ok above average
We were in Sai Kung today to do some shopping and came across Casa. Someone had told us about it and the only reason we hadn't been in yet was due to not having "walked past" it.Anyway, we got there quite early in the evening so there was no wait for a table which was good. However when we sat down, we had one waiter come over trying to sell drinks, who then proceeded to disappear when we said we were waiting for someone to join. Then a completely different waiter came over after again asking if

Anyway, we got there quite early in the evening so there was no wait for a table which was good. However when we sat down, we had one waiter come over trying to sell drinks, who then proceeded to disappear when we said we were waiting for someone to join. Then a completely different waiter came over after again asking if they could explain the drinks menu to us....it's a tapas bar, we would have preferred they offered to explain the food rather than the self-explanatory drinks.
I was a little dissapointed to hear they didn't serve regular soft drinks, only a speciality cola, which was way to sweet and tasted like a cola/root beer cross. Quite sickly when you just want a familiar drink with your meal.
We ordered:
Fried Chorizo: standard fare, decent portion, cut into long strips, was actually too much so we had it wrapped to take away (funnily they didn't have take away boxes so they wrapped in tin foil then put in a paper bag)
Vegetables with Hummous: Sticks of carrot, peppers, celery and hummous, very standard, felt like a M&S lunch snack. Vegetables didn't taste fresh.
Mussels: Very tasty a tad too salty though, came served in a beer mug which was cute, only one which smelt off, but we ate the rest.
Bocadillios with Anchovies and Tomato: This was a dissapointment as I recently got back from Madrid where I had this. In Casa it was 4 small slices of baguette (not toasted) with a dab of butter, half a cherry tomato, an anchovy wrapped around a basil leaf. The butter didn't taste good at all, would have been better with olive oil. The bread was not toasted and the whole thing tasted too salty. Perhaps it was salted butter with the salty anchovy?
Anyway, the food, was nothing special all the dishes were the "small" ones, the vegetables and the bocadillos were least worth the cost. This kind of place seems to serve better as a pre-dinner drinks and snacks to be honest, versus the sit down tapas long dinner kind of place you would get in Spain. It does have a good selection of beers and wines so for your aperitif it's not bad, lots of tables outside for smokers.
The one thing that actually drove me crazy however was the inattentiveness of the staff. There must have been about 6 of them serving just a few tables, not counting the people in the open kitchen and the people milling around that were either friends or perhaps the owners, but all of them had their head down. They were busy drinking their own drinks or just dissapearing, in fact I heard the chef ask a few times where people had dissapeared to. Everytime we tried to get someone's attention we had to literally get up and walk over to one. They didn't hear calls or anything, and it wasn't that busy. For that very reason I would never come here again, there are pleanty of better restaurants in Sai Kung with better service, food and pricing.
Too many cooks, or in this case waiters, spoil the broth.
A newly opened Tapas bar in Sai Kung. It's so new that its news hasn't really reached the city of Hong Kong and yet there are lots of people dining there on a weekday evening! The Casa logo reminded me of Fred Cheng's (鄭俊弘) HOME band logo.It is located behind the main minibus stop in the hustle and bustle behind the seafood restaurants.I just had to dine there because it reminded me of 22 Ships in Wan Chai, and their staff were British too (great for expats). The staff were really friendly and att

Again it has an open kitchen just like 22 ships with lovely bench tables and stools.
I was attracted to the Bocadillos which were bite sized tapas on bread and there are six pieces per portion which is good for gatherings. As well as Bocadillos, they serve hot/cold tapas, sandwiches, platters, desserts and drinks. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Bocadillos - Serrano Ham Quails Eggs:
These were too cute, fried quail eggs on top of serrano ham with freshly cracked black pepper on delicious crispy soft bread. The quail eggs paired nicely with the ham and the size of the quail eggs were just right for the bread. The yolk was slightly runny, which was really good with the bread and the ham was not too salty. It must have been a nifty and fiddly job cracking these dinky eggs and frying them just right! BRAVO! ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Mussels:
These were fresh mussels and I loved the white wine sauce it was in. The texture of these mussels were really soft and a bit like jelly, the byssus threads came off easily which was really good. It is quite interesting that people use these byssus threads to make byssus cloth and seasilk. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Bocadillos -Anchovies and Tomatoes:
I loved this one because it had a piece of fresh tomato, a piece of fresh basil and a piece of anchovy and all the tastes complemented each other especially the fragrant basil leaves. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Bocadillos - Blue cheese and caramelized onions:
This had the strongest taste out of the three but the strong taste of the blue cheese was balanced by the sweetness of the caramelized onions and the fancy leaves took away the heavyness of the blue cheese. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Cherry, Almond Fudge Ice-cream:
The icecreams served here are made by Happy Cow which are all made with Coconut milk and not milk! It had an interesting taste because there was a strong hint of coconut and the texture of this icecream is much creamier than icecream made with milk. It was really smooth as well and there were generous pieces of cherries in it. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Payment using Paypal: When I was about to pay, I was really surprised they said it would be done using PayPal but luckily I did not have to log in my personal PayPal account. Basically they took my card and put it in their device, after keying the bill amount, I thought to myself am I going to be signing on that device!!!
My questions were answered when he passed me the stylus to sign on the device. (It feels weird signing digitally! The screen below is blank because I have not signed it yet!)
The receipts for this restaurant and paypal were emailed to me imediately after the transaction with the address I provided! I was really surprised with this payment method in pre-historic Sai Kung! ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
