Created an OpenRice account just to post this. Most comical, inept, shambolic display I have ever seen.Eventually the waitress comes to take our order. "What's the beef of the day?""We have Angus, Wagyu and duck""Duck?""Yes duck"Not off to a good start when your wait staff don't know the difference between a cow and a duck. Created an OpenRice account just to post this. 

Most comical, inept, shambolic display I have ever seen.

Eventually the waitress comes to take our order. 

"What's the beef of the day?"

"We have Angus, Wagyu and duck"

"Duck?"

"Yes duck"

Not off to a good start when your wait staff don't know the difference between a cow and a duck. Anyway, we both order the wagyu, and i have to tell her medium rare, otherwise she wasn't going to ask. We order prosciutto to share. 

A long time passes ... 

At some point the waitress comes back to tell us they are out of fries, do we want potato wedges instead? Okay. How about that prosciutto by the way? It's coming she says

A long time passes ...

A boy brings a plate of cheese. No. Prosciutto. He goes away, and returns to tell us there is no prosciutto today, but they have Italian Cooked Ham. It is clear he has no idea what this is, and nor do we, so we cancel the starter. We ask for some bread since we are starving.

An exceedingly long time passes ... 

Potato wedges arrive, alone. Fine. By now we're too hungry to care and stuff them down our face. The bread arrives - four thin slices of baguette with no olive oil, vinegar, olives or anything. Literally four pieces of bread.

A ridiculously long time passes ... 

The beef arrives. It is fine. Check please, we have been here for like 2 and half hours now. 

$96 for the bread. NO FKN WAY. Shout at the manager till he takes it off. 

So bad it was actually laughable. Their wait staff literally have no idea what they are doing. At all. I felt sorry for them. There is a Belgian maitre'd type who swans around drinking wine, but I don't know what else he does. Certainly doesn't do any maitre d'ing. The food was perfectly acceptable but they clearly have no idea how to run a kitchen.

Had family brunch here last weekend (7 people + 1 baby) and we were impressed. In a quiet, leafy alley off Hollywood Road and Gough Street, is this charming restaurant with friendly French service who gets everything done in the suavest of ways.It may be in the centre of things (right below PMQ) but you feel like you're in your own little haven in the crossroads of Central / NoHo / Sheung Wan.Downstairs you have the wine bar with the high table, while upstairs you have the naturally lit balcony

It may be in the centre of things (right below PMQ) but you feel like you're in your own little haven in the crossroads of Central / NoHo / Sheung Wan.

Downstairs you have the wine bar with the high table, while upstairs you have the naturally lit balcony / loft restaurant with modern European decoration.
We had the whole place to ourselves that morning, such a surprise given its location. Cocotte right across enjoys way more popularity that it boggles us why Figaro doesn't get as much attention. Because it should.

Brunch was a simple yet tasty affair costing around HK$150-250 per head. Within that price range you can get yoghurt, muesli, fresh juice, coffee/tea, a croissant, AND hot breakfast - per person. Food presentation was exquisite, and taste was good. Prices more than reasonable.
Next time I will take more photos but for now these words will have to do. I would definitely go back.

Food, we had
Assorted bruschetta - the toast was too loaded with oil which overshadowed the otherwise tasty topping;
Homemade foie gras terrine - well balanced with the sauce (menu says green pepper but I thought it tasted like plum?)
36 month Bellota - not hand cut but still succulent;
Slow cooked egg - so overtaken by the wheat risotto that the tastes of the other components of the dish could hardly be found;
Pollack - not for the appetite of everyone, it's very fishy; and I think the chef could be more careful in unwrapping the cling film before cooking - a scrap of it remained on our fish!
Sweet and sour lamb - not exactly true to label as there was only a hint of sweet and sour taste which otherwise was covered by the strong gamey taste of the lamb.

Service - friendly.

Value - not expensive, comes to $500+ per pax including a bottle of Chambolle-Musigny wine.

Conclusion - may or may not revisit.

We went to Figaro on a Friday night. it was absolutely empty on our arrival which I always feel is a bad sign and so you can only imagine my delight when they turned out one fantastic dish after another at incredible prices. We had the clams, done with parsley and garlic similar to escargot. they were absolutely delicious and very fresh - always important when it comes to shell fish. We had the chicken which was remarkably tender and moist. We had the pasta pillows which came in an foamed cream

I could go on and on. Just so fresh, delicious, and authentic. The bread was fresh. Only negative is that they didn't stock salted butter - allow me to decide my salt intake, please. The whole meal for 2 came to HK$1600 which was incredible when you consider our chosen wine was HK$1050. The service was casual but efficient. Its not the best venue in the world, with the downstairs having a late night bar feel more than a restaurant. But the food is a standout. I can't understand how it isn't better known. I will be back.
