I wasn't planning on dining at this "1881 Heritage" new cool place, let alone finding a nice restaurant there! The website told me the restaurants will be "coming soon", so there was no expectation. Maybe that's why I had a nice surprise ..."Stables Grill" is named such as it used to be the horse stable. The restaurant serves Italian and grilled food. I ordered 2 appetizers and 2 main courses. You can tell they are all freshly made and not pre-prepared, as they all come out sizzling hot and you
"Stables Grill" is named such as it used to be the horse stable. The restaurant serves Italian and grilled food. I ordered 2 appetizers and 2 main courses. You can tell they are all freshly made and not pre-prepared, as they all come out sizzling hot and you can smell them as the waiter set the dishes down onto your table. That explains why some of the photos I took were half-dishes, as I couldn't help but digged in before I realized I forgot to take a picture!
Banderillas (toast with tomato paste, egg, and a whole small anchovy on top, finished with sun dried tomatoes)
Fried Calamari
Salami Pizza
Spaghetti Vongole
The Banderillas was prettier and more tasty than I have expected. It's like Bruchetta but more tasty as it got anchovy and sun dried tomatoes. A mix of little salty with sweet mix always make it interesting.
The Fried Calamari was delicately done. The surprise was the sauce. There's something chewy in there. I was too hungry to pay too much attention.
Salami Pizza. This was okay. It's the thin crusted type. It would be better should they make the crust more crispy.
Spaghetti Vongole ... this is the "wow!" of the night. The clams were big! They were made JUST right - cooked, yet still juicy! How often do you get to have clams that even after you ate the meat, there's still juice you can 'drink' from the shell? The spaghetti was al dente. The dish was lightly herbed to bring out the fresh sweetness of the clams. Yum yum! This is the dish that will bring me back to this restaurant!
Among the 2 of us, we had 2 champagnes and a soft-drink. No desserts. Bill came out to be HK$850. Excluding the drinks I think it's more like HK$300/head.
