First of ALL, great thanks to the foodie friends who organized a foodie trip to this new skewers place in Causeway Bay! When it comes to skewers in Hong Kong, I don't have a strong opinion about skewers as it's not something that I'd always eat. And besides, all that I can think of are the skewers that are largely Chongqing/ Mongolia-influenced. Therefore, it's nice that we can have a taste of something that is relatively different. When we arrived, a long high table with stools were reserved for us. The place is not huge but is spatious enough to spend a relaxed evening with friends. We were also greeted by their friendly PR Betty and with her advice, we quickly decided on what we wanted to try out.
Without further ado, here comes the FOOOOD (and the drinks)!
First came the two non-alcoholic drinks: Lime soda 青檸梳打 and Yakult Soda 乳酸梳打. Both of them can be mixed with Soju 真露 to turn into cocktails. In my opinion, the lime one was better as the flavour was more pronounced. Mixing the two drinks with Soju definitely can spice up the meal but for my own liking I prefer drinks to be more comforting.
These are some of the appetizers we had: Kimchi and tomatoes in sesame dressing ( we also had shredded braised ox-tongue but the pic's missing ) Pretty good but no wow-factor found...
The cheese mochi was so yum too! The cheese filling was still runny when we cut them up and rice cake was chewy without being too hard. Angus beef skewers were well-grilled and tender; though it was lacking a bit of beefy flavour. AND we LOVED the baby sweet potatoes! Adorable aside, they were sweet and mushy with a slight chewiness on the outside.
Here are other dishes we've tried: Ox-tongue skewers were quite flavourful! It would have been better if they were more tender and succulent. The chicken wings were grilled with decent crispy skin, but we all agreed that they could have been more juicy and further marinated. Stuffed wings were another dish we liked a lot - mouthful of yumminess! Just one remark on the bacon-wrapped skewers: they would have been so, so, so much better if bacon fo better quality was used. ANNND this is my favourite! Grilled eel with honey marinade. Had to say that the eel per se was really fresh that the flesh was still bouncy and flavourful. The honey marinade just took it to another level and nomnomnom it was sweet, savoury and addictive! My only comment is that the proportion of honey can be raised and that of salt/ soy could be lowered next time. This is another highlight of our meal. We were worried if the foie gras here would disappoint us, but it turned out not too bad! The small foie gras slices were said to be seared with sake then sprinkled with sesame, and we did taste a good amount of marinade and sauce - but no sake flavour was spotted... Anyways, overall it's pretty good. We didn't plan to try this out - but we had it eventually. The cheese fondue was heated above a candle, and it tasted alright. It's just the cheesy flavour could have been much stronger and the alcohol could have been tuned down a bit. The lobster meat was slightly tough and the portion was small, but overall speaking, again, it was okay. The meal was satisfactory I'd say. Would love to revisit when the restaurant updates its menu. My only concern would be the pricing - food is quite overpriced. But yeyy keep it up you Skewed!
