Decided to come to D-Park for lunch at around 13:00. All the other restaurants on the lower floors were filled with people and had a long queue too, all except this restaurant, very quiet and not that busy 😬 (maybe because it is in a higher floor…) I ordered from their lunch set menu. Decided to come to D-Park for lunch at around 13:00. All the other restaurants on the lower floors were filled with people and had a long queue too, all except this restaurant, very quiet and not that busy 😬 (maybe because it is in a higher floor…)
I ordered from their lunch set menu. There is discount for all the items ($118 became $88). I ordered the Spicy Shrimp Rice $88. The lunch set comes with their daily soup and a drink (tea, coffee etc). They also give their famous black sugar bread to each table and this is refillable 😝.
The daily soup today was a Cream of Mushroom. This soup was absolutely delicious, the consistency was creamy but still liquid and smooth, there were chunks of assorted mushrooms so it wasn’t like canned cream of mushroom soup. There was also a small piece of fried mushroom on top as garnish which was really tasty and offered a nice texture difference.
Their famous Black Sugar bread is also delicious. The texture is soft and fluffy and when you cut into it, there is a crunch from the crust but no resistance. The taste is also not as sweet as I expected. You can also taste the yeast which can be good or bad depending on your preference for bread. The only improvement for this is to make it hotter as it is quite tepid when I ate it. Soaking the bread in the Mushroom soup was a delicious decision because the chunks of mushrooms stuck to the bread and the sweetness of the bread definitely worked with the creamy and salty soup. The bread is also unlimited refill which is always a bonus 😛.
The Spicy Shrimp Rice is not spicy at all. I myself can handle and enjoy spice but I honestly cannot taste any sort of spiciness except for black pepper. However, there is also spicy Italian sausage in this rice which has a good chilli spice to it. (They should include the sausage in the menu as it is really prominent and delicious, with many pieces). The Shrimp in this dish was really disappointing as they were all skinny and over cooked so the texture was really pasty and grainy, it was also hard to get it clean off the shell and a lot of meat stayed stuck to the tail 😞. The rice itself was decent, with little flavor but it was 2 minutes away from being congee, the added red pepper and onions definitely helped with texture and taste. There was also some fried crispy carrot on top and I cannot decide if it was necessary or not as some clumped together but it also gave a texture change from the mushy rice. This dish also arrived quite tepid and I would have preferred it be hotter. But having said that, I really enjoyed the Italian sausage and believe that was the star of the dish.
The total for my dish was $88 + 10% Service Charge = $96.8. I would say this price is okay considering I also got a delicious soup and refillable signature bread. However, this is one of the cheapest thing on the menu so the price would only increase from here. They also need to work on delivering the food faster instead of leaving it on the counter and also their service as it took 10 minutes to receive the bill even though it was not busy at all.
