I came around 5 for an afternoon tea and I was the only guest the whole time. The sole server (and owner I believe) will serve you but that’s it. No conversations. Nothing. It was hilarious how he kept pushing the menu cover with their instagram and restaurant name closer to my camera when I was taking photos of the food. He really is desperate for customers.

Ps, they don’t serve tap water here and you have to pay for a bottle of water so being your own! Also, they have service charge despite the lack of service 😂

Hummus and Falafel $90

I wanted to get their all-you-can-eat hummus and falafels which is advertised on their menu but apparently they don’t serve that anymore 😬, so I opted for this dish so I get to try both.

First off, the hummus is decent. Love the smooth texture that isn’t too thick but it is lacking in flavour. No garlic nor tahini. I personally prefer Chickpea’s hummus which is similar texture but more flavour. The additional olive oil on top definitely makes it more luscious and it was easily scooped up by the pita.

Secondly, the falafels. Smaller than I thought it would be but definitely very tasty. The outside is crisp with a great crunch and the inside steams with you open it, revealing the fluffy and soft interior. It is sufficient in spices and has a great aroma to it too. They serve the falafels with three sauces: chilli, amba, and tahini. The chilli sauce is definitely spicy and overpowers the falafels in my opinion. The tahini is very smooth and actually taste like tahini (without being bitter), and the amba is my favourite: sweet and tangy with a slight heat to it.

This dish is served with a piece of Israeli style pita and some pickles. Surprisingly, the pita bread is the star of this meal. Unlike the pita at Maison Libanaise, it is extremely thick and fluffy, slightly dense but the fluffy interior prevents it from being hard. It is similar to the one at Francis but with a more distinct crumb and a chewier texture. By far the best pita I’ve ever had in HK. The mandatory pocket in the middle is what gives the pita it’s name (even though some restaurants fail to get the pocket) and it’s perfect for scooping up the hummus and making you own falafel pockets.

The pickles are a great palate cleanser in between bites. They have a nice salty taste but wished they were more acidic and cold. Do be careful with the banana pepper as it squirted all over me when I bit into it. The olive is not not pitted so be careful of the seed, it it also extremely salty but not in a bad way.

Don’t be fooled by the photo, the portion of this is perfect for a snack as it is quite small and the hummus is layered very thinly.

💬 Overall, good food, bad service and ambience. I definitely recommend coming here once for their pita and falafels as they are really good but I’ll probably take away next time. The price is also more reasonable compared to other restaurants in central.
