It had been getting a little bit cold and my lunch partner brought me to this Sichuan restaurant in TST. I was surprised that it was quite full even during the fight against COVID-19 for lunch on a weekday. All seats were occupied upstairs so we grabbed our seats downstairs. Our orders were taken by scanning QR code. Not wanting to think, we just ordered from their lunch sets. As grilled fish must be their signature given the name of the restaurant, we ordered a 一人烤沙巴龍躉 and a 酸菜魚片飯 to share. We liked how they were so flexible to let you choose the level of spiciness and amount of coriander etc. So considerate of them.

一人烤沙巴龍躉 at $138


We chose the most expensive grilled fish set to try out their signature. Yet it was actually not that expensive, just $138 without service charge. We decided to choose tomato soup for the grilled fish. There was an option to choose either spicy or sour and spicy. We were glad that we had ordered this because the fish was so so good! First of all, the fish was quite big with a lot of flesh to eat. It was seasoned and grilled so well that the skin was crispy and tasted so rich of grilled flavour. The flesh itself was smooth too. The tomato soup was very tasty with lots of real tomato pieces and slightly spicy which made it so appetising! There were also tofu puffs, fresh bean sprouts, lots of fresh coriander (because we asked for a lot more), 海帶 knots and garlic accompanying the fish. Everything was served on a stove so that the soup was bubbling after a while.

You could also choose rice, mixian or 薯粉 and we chose the latter. The 薯粉 was served separately and we were advised to pour them into the soup before eating. They were super chewy and smooth. Yummy! The portion of this set was definitely more than sufficient for 1 person!

We decided to try non spicy eventually as we had never tried it. Portion was big and the fish and soup were placed in a very cute fish shaped dish. There were around 12 slices of fish, some thinner and some thicker. All had skin which added some crispyness to the flesh! The fish slices were quite smooth. There were loads of fresh 芽菜, some pickled veggies, 雲耳, around 5 tofu puff and a little bit of 薯粉 at the bottom. Flavourwise, it was quite a good combo of saltiness and sourness. I particularly liked the fresh coriander on top which smelt very good. There was a bowl of plain rice accompanying. Quite a healthy option with a lot of veggies.

We were very full after finishing both dishes. The 烤沙巴龍躉 was really signature and I would highly recommend it. Given such quality and portion at this price, it was good value for money.
