We had to wait for 30 minutes to get seated even though it was pass lunch hour. (13:30). The waiter however was very kind and kept reassuring us that people will be leaving soon. Baked mackerel with sweet and chilli tomato sauce.
The mackerel was tender and flavorful, easy to pull apart with my chopsticks, there was only a little bit of fish oil from the skin which was disappointing but it sufficed. The sauce however was really misleading as there was no chilli flavor at all and just lacked throughout as there was 1 spoon of sauce over the fish and 1 piece of onion. Portion was 1 piece of fish.
Organic quinoa and sesame roasted chicken.
There was no quinoa at all on my plate and a few sesames. The flavor was very Caribbean and I think that needed to be on the menu as it was quite spiced. Meat was a bit tough as it is quite small but not dry. I got lucky and had a piece of chicken skin on one of my pieces, the skin was very spiced and fatty and perfect with my rice. Portion was 2 small pieces.
Shrimp and corn salad with passion fruit dressing.
This was rather misleading once again as I got 1 piece of roasted corn and 2 piece of shrimp on a bed of spinach and 3 halves of cherry tomatoes, all that covered in mayonnaise with only a hint of passion fruit that I would not be able to identify without the menu. The shrimp was al dente but skinny, the corn was the same.
Okinawa bitter melon and pineapple salad.
The bitter melon is truly very bitter and definitely needs to be eaten with the sweet and sour pineapple to balance out the taste. The combination of that was delicious and electric. Sadly the ratio of bitter melon to pineapple was 5:3, so not all bitter melon was balanced. The additional yellow tomatoes and salad leaves were nice.
Spinach and shiitake mushroom in sesame dressing.
Definitely the biggest portion size today. There was more carrots than there are shiitake mushrooms but I am not complaining as both were delicious. The spinach was blanched correctly so it was al dente. The sesame dressing was not too heavy and did not overpower the vegetables which is good.
I chose their 16 treasure rice as main instead of white rice and bread. The rice was very disappointing as it was quite hard and stale and 3/4 of it was just normal white rice. The rice was definitely not the star of the dish but tasted nice when paired with the hot dishes.
The soup today was a miso soup with tofu, carrots and corn. This was definitely the best thing I had today 😆. The soup was perfectly hot and stayed hot throughout my meal even though the air conditioning was very strong and the hot dishes got cold too very soon. The vegetables were given very generously and the tofu was soft but not mushy and the carrots were crunchy and tender. The corn however was absolutely perfect. It was plump and filling and very very sweet, much better than the corn in the shrimp and corn salad.
Overall, the ambience of the restaurant is really relaxing their aesthetic is also very pleasing. A good place to enjoy a nice tea or cake. The service was not bad considering they don’t have service charge but the staff will still deliver the food to you after you order outside or mobile order. The water however is self served next to the cashier which is a bit burdensome as you have to put your mask on and get a refill of water when you’re in between bites and want some water 😬.
The food itself was not mind blowing to be but I had a very filling meal and knowing the ingredients used was ‘healthy’, the price was worth it as I was paying for the environment too.
