[ 尚萝.茳煳 | 灣仔 ]The lunch sets are only available on weekdays so I finally found time to come and try it after looking through their photos. Restaurant quite small. Got seated at the bar table that’s adjacent the corridor which is quite annoying. The air conditioning is very strong too, especially on the bar tables. XO醬陳村粉蒸班片 $148
For those who are unfamiliar, chenchun fen (陳村粉) is like a thicker and chewier ho fen (河粉). This Shunde rice noodle is quite rare to find in HK noodle shops as it’s quite old. This is my first time trying it and I very much fell in love with it. But my mother said traditional 陳村粉 should be thinner and silkier. This version is quite thick but only because they were not separated well and it all stuck together, but after separating them (not that hard as they were not mushy) into thin strips, they were very smooth and delicious. The lack of flavor also makes it easy to catch on to other flavors. Such as the XO sauce and soy sauce given.
The XO sauce is quite spicy and more like a chilli oil as it was quite oily but not yet greasy. The amount is enough to flavor all fish and a few 陳村粉 so it’s not overwhelming.
The fish is very tender as it has marinated well but not flaky. The skin is also quite gelatinous and hard to removed from flesh. Very collagen rich as the jelly remained intact 😆 Even though there are only 4-5 pieces of fish, they are all very thick and big.
This portion is quite sufficient although it may not look much as most noodles are stuck together.
I really enjoyed their daily soup (燉湯) too. It’s extremely rich and intense but still clear and rejuvenating. Two pieces of pork makes it not as lackluster. They also serve it on a candle to keep it warm which I highly appreciate.
This lunch set also comes with a plate of pickled radish and carrots and even though they plate is small, they give a generous amount as an appetizer. It’s sour but not tart and a bit sweet too. Perfect to counter the spicy XO sauce.
To finish is a generous cube of coconut jelly for dessert. Not sweet at all and very creamy. Also not heavy with gelatin so it’s firm but easy to jiggle and smooth to slice. With tiny coconut plups for added texture.
Set also comes with a choice of drink. Cold needs to +$2.

💬 Overall, really love their lunch set selection which is not common HK lunch sets. Also like the assortment of foods from appetizer to dessert. Their a la carte menu looks interesting but very expensive. They also only accept cash or octopus so I don’t understand how people would pay $1000 when ordering ALC.
