You need to get away from the Clutter? On Weekend? Make your way to this nice uniquely humble restaurant and let the rest of the day take your breathe away.Restaurant by the beach is nice of course. You sitting on or by the sand, listening to the waves, usually people start forgetting about the taste of the food and will remember the restaurant by its environment.Yes yes the sand the sea is all great but... Yes yes the sand the sea is all great but... Well I remember Stoep by their consistently great homemade bread. Your get a choice of Farmhouse Loaf or Seed Loaf. A Loaf is really A LOAF. So if you are there for a romantic dinner with just the 2 of you, don't get stuck with a LOAF of bread, get 2 pieces of each, and you will ask for more later.
Farmhouse is not exactly extraordinary, but its softness is Just great for dips. They have around 6-8 dips to choose from. We tried the Cooked EggPlant and Hummus. The eggplant never fails to surprise me with the layers of taste and texture, (looks like a cookie dough). Hummus has a gernerous touch of Saffron and its very mouth watering. 2 dips balanced out each other. Great choice.
Seedloaf is a lot more dense as a bread, with a whole lot of black sesame embedded, lending to its fragrant bouquet. It is more filling than the farmhouse.
Greek salad is BIG. Served with a very generous amount of Feta, its just the right salad.
By the time you finish the Bread and Salad, you are basically full. But if you walk away then, you will miss out a lot. So do take your time eating this meal... I would suggest order the rest of the meal while having your starters.
Remarkable Charcoal Lamb Kebabs, Sausages, and Fillets. Poach Salmon is bit overdone. Can't wait to try out Lamb Entres next time round.
Their Wine selection is not exactly Grand Cru, offering South African and Australian selections. But who cares, you should be drunken with the great environment and ambience if you have the right company there. Their food tend to go better with lighter wines, white definitely. Sauvignon Blanc is the mainstay, whilte the Chenin Blanc offers a tad sweeter finish to go with their great Cods/Salmon.
I will make sure I am equipped with a bottle of light Champagne next time I am there, if not 2. Finish the 1st bottle sitting on the beach doing nothing, and the 2nd sitting by the restaurant doing the starters. Its going to be a min. 6-hour stay.
OH BTW, if you are a dog=lover, you won't be lonely, Stoep's over-friendly cute doggies will keep you company. They actually walk us out to the beach, guiding us along the beautiful Cheung Sha. My buddies.
How do you get there?
What I do is drive up to Tung Chun, and hop on a Blue Taxi for a $50 ride to Cheung Sha Lower Village. On the way back I would get on a bus back to Tung Chun. I do recommend doing the taxi if its your first time, cuz the hidden driveway is not exactly very easy to find, especially with the Grunting Lantau Bus Drivers (they aren't overly friendly).
If you are going by the other side (Ferry to MuiWo), the ride to Cheung Sha although not far, just adds on to your stress before you get to this nice secluded beach. Dats why I prefer Tung Chung.
See you there.
My 2 Cents.
