This place pops up from long term memory when I was having a class nearby. It’s already there when I was little. Now that I’ve become a coffee addict, it always feel good to visit small coffee shops that grow old but never out of place. Thought this was a place for serious coffee drinking but it turned out to be a friendly neighbourhood store. Time seemed to stand still here. I hadn’t noticed the cheesecake in the menu and ordered a butter and condensed milk crispy bun and blue mountain coffee that needed extra charge. I heard the happy rattling of the grinding machine which was a good sign of fresh coffee. The customers all seems long patrons and chatted happily with the laid back staff that were like the auntie next door. The menu contains homey dish with rice set, instant noodles set, French toast and toasties set. For drinks, house coffee, cha chaan teng drinks, Taiwanese fruit and tea drinks, as well as a variety of coffee from single origins were available. The chatter and clinging sounds of cooking utensils felt warm and nostalgic.
The butter and condensed milk crispy bun was nicely done, just a little bit short of condensed milk, but one could avoid spilling and getting hands dirty. After quite a while, the distilled Blue Mountain came in a NesCafe mug. Hilarious as it looked the coffee tasted full and smooth without acidity, totally acceptable to be drunk with no sugar and milk, another sign of good coffee, but at half the standard price at Central for a regular coffee. Contented with renewed energy, next stop let’s go to the herbal tea shop with the chrysanthemum honey drink I missed.
