APM is one of those malls where you are stuck with basically nothing you really want to eat. But as it was raining outside, boyfriend and I were stuck here for dinner. We decided to eat at Kam Kee Cafe as we've been to their other branches and I was all set for their curry in a bun!But when we sat down, we realized none of the items that we were used to were not found in this cafe. Instead we just had regular cha chan teng items that looked strangely like something from Tsui Wah. Menu here is in English and Chinese and there is no 10% service charge. They had dinner sets that included a drink and soup so we chose that.
Boyfriend's soup was a borscht and it was ok. A bit too much tomato but still fine.
I had cream soup and there were bits of mushroom in it. For a cha chan teng cream soup, it was better than I expected. It was actually creamy and didn't just taste like water and cornflour like most places.
This is a baked Portuguese chicken rice ($78). It was smaller than it looks as it was placed on a shallow metal plate. But at least it tasted pretty good. Interesting they added olives on it. The chicken was super moist and tender. The sauce was had a strong creamy coconut flavor.
I chose the sweet and sour pork ribs with rice ($75). The sauce was a good balance of sweet and sour. The coating was crispy and not over floured. This was quite good. The bowl of rice was a big.
Though a bit more expensive than usual cha chan teng places, this is inside a mall so I guess more acceptable? The food tasted good. I just find it strange they didn't have the menu that is found in their other branches. Is it to adhere to the mall crowd?
