Having decided to do a healthy veggie day, going back to Veggie SF for dinner made sense.The table wait was about 15mins (at about 8pm in the evening) and after being sat down we ordered the beetroot patty burger (extra soya patty) and the portobello muchroom burger (+$56 for a set including soup and drink.) The soup came almost instantly and while eating I stared around the room and took a good look at the decor. Decorated in the style of the 1950's this restaurant is filled with posters, trinkits and accessories from the decade. Along with the music it certainly wouldn't fail to make anyone smile during their dinner!
When the burgers came the portobello mushroom burger was great! Chewy and moist it was everything I like in a burger (vegetarian and tasty.)
The beetroot patty was a bit of a disappointment but the soya patty on top was incredible. Filled with taste and also chewy, the only downside (for me) is it did kind of taste like meat. I am sure for others is an upside.
The accompanying chips, made of sweet potato and potato were a delightful assortment of textures and taste. Crispy on the outside, sweet, savoury, and not too dry.
The only complaint I would make are the price for “additions.” Although the burgers were good, we felt adding $56 for a small bowl of soup and tea was not entirely justified.
Additionally, when asked us if we wanted “extra salad” in the burgers, we naturally assumed there wasn’t much in the plate to begin with. The price didn’t make sense so we did not opt for this. When they plate came out there was more than enough, though a lingering feeling has been that they tried upselling a relatively inexpensive item to get as much profit for the restaurant as possible.
