In short there is no better place to have a long lunch on a Sunday or a holiday especially when there is a toddler in the family. This restaurant is not the easiest to find and even seems unwelcoming to visitors as it is sited behind a guard's post to the marina. This restaurant is not the easiest to find and even seems unwelcoming to visitors as it is sited behind a guard's post to the marina. But once negotiated through all the narrow roads, the view is nothing short of idyllic and really very mesmerizing. There are two sections to this restaurant - the terrace on the outside and the air-conditioned part inside. On this particular Sunday, the sun was out, breeze pleasant and the temperature just perfect for some alfresco dining.
The waiting staff was very accommodating, a high chair was brought to our table as soon as we stepped foot on the terrace. They even took time to talk and play with our little girl! The tables were nicely spaced, each commanding the full view of the marina.
The menu consists of a variety of Italian dishes, some oriental dishes, some old-time favourites and a small selection especially for children too. For the three of us, we opted for a portion of garlic bread, a Thai red curry chicken and a carbonara tagliatelle. The portion of garlic bread was huge and could have been enough even for a table of 4 or 6. The pasta was nicely made but a little too soggy and cheesy to my liking. The Thai curry was a little disappointing as the curry sauce was more like a madras, the chicken too chunky and chewy and the dish came with a paratha!
All these minor misses paled into insignificance as it was a very enjoyable lunch in exceptional spring time weather with a postcard-perfect view in a small corner of Hong Kong far away from the maddening crowd. The attitude of the staff, whether one likes it or not, simply complimented to everything there was to this restaurant. It could have been anywhere in Costa del Sol, Mediterranean France or Naples.
