Bagel-a chewy bread with a hole punched in the middle. something that goes well with jam, cream cheese, salmon or salad. more and more cafes devoting to serve the best bagels are emerging in town and one of the very best is harvest in central.lunch sets were available but i was determined in ordering a bagel sandwich to chew on, and i didnt feel like eating BBQ chicken bagel-so i ordered a smoked salmon bagel and a small kiwi juice, while my mum had a lunch set C, which consists of a chicken and
lunch sets were available but i was determined in ordering a bagel sandwich to chew on, and i didnt feel like eating BBQ chicken bagel-so i ordered a smoked salmon bagel and a small kiwi juice, while my mum had a lunch set C, which consists of a chicken and wild mushroom salad and a small orange juice. i could also personalize my smoked salmon by choosing the bagel (7grain, wholewheat, plain..) and cream cheese(plain, blueberry, cajun sauce...) and i ended up having the default for i couldnt think of a better combination than suggested.
we settled on the second floor where its relatively quieter and the air con is stronger. we didnt wait for long before the food arrived-efficienty appreciated! the salad was served in a take-away plastic box while the bagel was toasted and halved just as wt i had ordered.
first we finished the salad-the portion was huge and everything was tightly tucked into the plastic box, making tossing difficult. i had to use two forks to slowly 'rotate' the veggie chunks and stuff. the dressing was a plain olive oil, vinegar and herbs, but was refreshing; it went well with the lettuce and mushroom. the chicken was a little disappointing for they were quite tough indeed. and in general, the salad's texture was too consistent; a doze of almond flakes or coutons or flaxseed would be great cus they would definitely enrich the texture, giving it more variety and 'fun' to eat.
next came the bagel. it was huge-not much smaller than a regular 'american' burger (not those served in local cafes). nicely halved without making a mess out of it, it could be seen that the fat salmon, cajun cream cheese, veggies, red onions and egg white were all nicely layered. everything tasted fresh and yummy! the salmon was lovely and not too soft; a slight sprinkle of lemon juice had even made the unique 'seafood' taste and aroma stood out. the veggies were fresh and crispy, however the scrambled egg white was just medicore-its not even salted. anyways, the whole sandwich was certainly above average-just that the toasted bagel was a little TOO chewy cause it has gone cold after being blown by the air con for way too long!
as for a baby size juice, i have to say that the kiwi juice was outstanding. its so fresh that i thought i was eating a kiwi fruit rather than drinking its juice-lovely!
it was a lovely lunch indeed, and a cheap one too-given the high quality of food served. theres even wifi here and its quiet, even during lunchtimes. a great place to hang around and eat healthy-i will definitely be here often!
