Location/Setting
Walk too fast and you will miss it completely. Down a side alleyway is this little eatery which attempts to bring the Osaka favourite to HK. The location is very unique and adds to the fun of eating at this restaurant. As you pass the buzz of Granville St and pass the temptation of other eateries, a little patience will have you stumbling in to find it. Given the small shop front, all seating is outside in the alleyway, but this cozy style of eating is very well matched with the kind of food that is served.
Given the namesake and my craving, we had to order okonomiyaki.
It was very tasty and inline with the traditional mix of teppanyaki sauce and mayonaise with dried fish dancing on top. What was an interesting take on this dish, it was more a pizza style than an actual pancake. Semantics I hear you say? Perhaps, but I prefer my okonomiyaki pancake style. Nevertheless ingredients were true to origin and no complaints from me, very tasty. Portion sizes could be bigger but I guess at this price, just order more!
Overall
Now this restaurant was a surprising find. I am surprised that there haven't been more open rice reviews, but this is a must try and a fun place for a few people and if you were like me craving okonomiyaki. The food could be better but on balance and for price, it was a pretty good experience!
