I've been trying to try the food from here for a while now. Usually it's not too hard to have food at a restaurant, but something seems a little amateur-ish about this place. In May I went to the HK Food Truck Festival at the PMQ, where Picada advertized a booth. I went to their booth, checked out the prices, went to buy tokens, then came back to the booth. But the guy working there said, sorry, the chef hasn't shown up yet. It was 2 hours after the festival opened that day. This was seriously a
In May I went to the HK Food Truck Festival at the PMQ, where Picada advertized a booth. I went to their booth, checked out the prices, went to buy tokens, then came back to the booth. But the guy working there said, sorry, the chef hasn't shown up yet. It was 2 hours after the festival opened that day. This was seriously annoying, because I had to then convince the festival people to give me my money back, and they claimed to have a "no refunds" policy. Yeah, and a policy of misleading advertizing and deadbeat vendors. I finally got my money back and went someplace else for lunch.
Then a couple weeks later I went to their regular, permanent location, again, at like 1pm on a weekend, and again no chef! And again, fairly annoying.
So today I tried *one last time*-- and third time's a charm. The chef was finally there. Or maybe a new chef, I have no idea.
The first thing pictured is the arepas. These are a type of Colombian flatbread filled with meat and other stuff, but in this case mostly just meat. The beef ones had a stewed-tomato-and-chili sauce and the chicken ones a little cream, I thought, but the meat was too dry and tough.
The obvious comparison that came to mind, for me, was 33 Cafe y Mucho Mas in CWB that also does arepas. If you look at my pictures for that place, you can see that the arepas are filled with much more things: vegetables, avocado, cheese. The meat there was much more tender and more flavorful. I didn't think Picada's arepas were bad, it's just to my mind they definitely needed more variety in their fillings and more tender meat.
OK, I'd like to give this place a terrible review because of how much they've annoyed me, but it's acceptable food. It is not in the same league as 33 Cafe y Mucho Mas, so if you live closer to CWB or you've got the time, I highly recommend that instead. Here, things are a little dry and bland, but it's not like pttht pthht spit it out, it's gross. Nevertheless, it did cost $363 for 2 people for lunch, which is a bit steep. So I don't really recommend it.
題外話/補充資料:
My "service" rating is aimed at the chef, not the server, who was great. I put "8760" for the table wait time, because it wouldn't let me put "87600," i.e. two months.
