BBQ Grilled and Baked was boyfriend's recommendation for lunch one day. He said he wanted to try this place when it was located in the nearby wet market but it had closed. Or at least that's what he thought. It hadn't closed but moved to a larger location.Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge and you pay on your way out. During lunch they have sets that include a soup, garlic toast, main and a drink. Come after 2:15 PM and there is a further $5 discount. Honestly, it was
The lunch sets come with a bowl of cream soup and garlic toast. The soup was pretty terrible. Just tasted like white starch water.
The garlic toast wasn't too good also. It was chewy. I think it was toasted ahead of time and became soft. I started to wonder why boyfriend wanted to eat here. Boyfriend told me the most popular item is the half a chicken and is often sold out very quickly. It was still available when we were there. But for some reason he ordered the Golden Crispy Pork Loin, Roasted Corn and Pineapple Salsa with Pasta ($50). I asked him why and he said he wanted the roast potato but they had run out so he chose pasta and he stuck with it because he was curious what it looked like. Well, it looked like this. It didn't look like much but oddly it tasted ok. The pork loin was nicely breaded and super crunchy. It was also boneless and you get two pieces. The pasta was generous and al dente. The corn and pineapple salsa was definitely not authentic but it tasted ok. I ordered the Texas Style Pulled Pork BBQ Burger, Cole Slaw and Potato Wedges ($48). It looked good. The bun was soft and it held everything together. The pork was juicy but it needed more sauce. A lot more sauce. The wedges were seasoned and fluffy on the inside while crisp outside. The coleslaw was not very good. It was just shredded lettuce with mayo. No vinegar tang that makes it a coleslaw.
This place is clearly a local interpretation of Texas BBQ style food. It was ok but it could be better. But then a lot of the places in Hong Kong does the same thing but then they cost a whole lot more. As the price was cheap, it gets pumped to an OK.
