There are a lot of places that offer Hainan chicken rice. And then there is Chatterbox Cafe. Originally from Singapore's Mandarin Orchid Hotel, they are considered one of the best in the country. A while ago, they opened a branch in Hong Kong's K11 Musea. However, apparently they now have another branch in Tai Koo! Boyfriend and I discovered it when we were in Tai Koo to drop off some papers.The one in Tai Koo is called Chatterbox Express and is more like a fast food version. You pay and order
The one in Tai Koo is called Chatterbox Express and is more like a fast food version. You pay and order at the cashier where they will provide a pager for you to pick up the food.
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. We arrived at lunch where they had lunch sets. All included a drink. There were also optional add ons for snacks.
The lunch sets include a standard drink but we upgraded. I had the calmansi juice ($10, on the left) and boyfriend had the soybean milk with grass jelly ($10). I loved the calmansi as it really seemed like pure juice. For the price upgrade, it was a good deal.
I had the Mandarin Chicken Rice ($108). The chicken was delicous. Moist and tender. And as it was their fast food branch, the quality was the same as the one at K11 Musea. They also had a lot of sauce added as well.
The rice was fragrant and not overly oily. A very strong chicken taste.
It came with a bowl of chicken broth. The taste of chicken was very strong.
Boyfriend ordered the Signature Nonya Laksa ($128). The broth was not too spicy and had an intense coconut taste, making it taste very sweet. The soup was also thick and very rich. The prawns were fresh and firm. There was some thckly cut fish cakes and tofu puffs. The noodles were very chewy and soaked up the soup well.
Overall the food was delicious and quite good value for a casual meal. As we were leaving, we saw them post the tea time menu which seemed like excellent value for money. Will probably be back.
