Disembarked from Wanchai Pier at 10ish on a Friday night, a gang of 4 was hunting for a late dinner in the area around. We decided to take a look at Brim 28, the dining area on the upper floor of Causeway Centre. Finally we settled in Tinello as recommended by one of us.
Tinello served 3-course set dinner at around HK$250 each but we found a la carte more flexible and interesting thus we didn’t go for the dinner set. The overall food was satisfactory given reasonable prices, services and location. Brim 28, the ex-Sanlitun, had been renovated for more than a year hoping to upscale itself as a new Soho. However, it is still a long way to attract diners even at weekends. On the up side, most of the restaurants keep their prices at a reasonable level to maintain it’s competitiveness.
a) Spinach Salad / Salad di Spinaci ($88) – 7.5/10 Spinach salad with rockets, baked goat cheese, slow roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, garlic confit, toasted walnuts and balsamic vinegar. The greens were fresh and the dressing was fine, just the down side was that some of the spinach seemed more like local or mainland grown which may not be appropriate as salad.
b) Tomato Salad / Salad di Caprese ($88) – 8/10 Sliced tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil. The tomatoes were meaty and juicy.
c) Calamari with Garlic / Calamari all’aglio ($98) – 8.5/10 Grilled calamari with chili and a sauce that tasted like Chinese preserved shrimp paste. Delicious and the texture was neither too soft or rubbery.
d) Linguine with Crab Meat / Linguine Al Granchi ($128) – 8/10 Described as linguine with fresh blue swimmer crabmeat, however, the meat was not as fresh than it was expected. Mixed with bell peppers, capers, crash chili flakes, white wine garlic sauce, the linguine was al dente though.
e) Greek Pizza / Pizza Greca ($118) – 8/10 Grilled chicken pizza with mozzarella, red onions, bell peppers, feta cheese and olives. The ingredients were yummy, just that the crust was softened very quickly.
f) Rib Eye ($246) – 8/10 Char grilled eye fillet was tendered and well seasoned and tendered, the sauce by the side was not required.
g) Chakana Malbec 2012 ($238) – 7.5/10 This Argentina wine was easy to drink, no airing was required. Reasonably price and quality for casual dinner.
