KS Cafe is a place we had not seen before. There was a sign located outside a commercial building advertising their lunch and dinner sets. All seemed reasonably priced so we decided to give it a try.

As it was quite new, it was pretty empty when we arrived except for one other table. Layout was very simple and comfortable enough. Staff was eager to please and that's always a good sign.

We were presented with a menu. They have both sets and a la carte. Menu is in English and Chinese. We decided to go with the dinner set as it seemed like good value for money with upgrades on drinks as we didn't want the set coffee or tea and a dessert afterwards.

Strawberry Daiquiri ($20). You can upgrade your set drink to a mocktail for an additional $20. This is a virgin daiquiri. I liked it. Not too icy to make it seem like a slushy. There was a nice amount of strawberry syrup to make but too much to make it seem artificial. It wasn't too sweet as well.

Virgin Pina Colada ($20). Boyfriend upgraded his set drink with this. A strong coconut flavor came through bit of sweet pineapple blended in. It was a not too icy as well.

Starter of the Day. Set came with starter of the day which was prawn wrapped in smoked salmon with a side of salad. There was also a bit of salsa on the side. This actually smelled wonderful when placed in front of me. The prawn was fresh and had a strong mediterranean marinade. All was wrapped around a piece of smoked salmon. Salad was fresh and was actually dressed with salad dressing.

We were given a bread basket which was garlic toast. It was ok but I think not buttery enough.

Soup of the Day. Soup of the day was vegetable soup. This was pretty good as well. It was rich tomato broth with what I saw to be thyme added along with other vegetables. Quite a good soup.

Pan Fried Codfish with Dill Cream Sauce served with Seasonal Vegetables ($188). The set main that I chose was this. The cod was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. The meat flaked off easily and was not dried out. It was laid on a bed of thick cut fries that were seasoned with a bit of paprika. Seasonal vegetables included roasted cherry tomatoes and yellow and green zucchini. The winner of this dish is the dill cream sauce. It was smooth and rich with a touch of acidity to aid in the entire dish not being too heavy.

Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Seasonal Vegetables and Shallot Red Wine Sauce ($188). Boyfriend chose this for his set main. Seasonal vegetables were the same as the one above so no need to repeat as well as the thick cut fries. However, the roasted beef tenderloin was done to a medium rare and was tender and juicy. Seasoning was perfect as well. The wine sauce had a heavy wine taste but was not too over powering.

Yogurt Panna Cotta with Mixed Berries Sauce ($20). We added $20 to upgrade for a dessert. They don't have a large dessert menu so there were only three choices to choose from. The panna cotta was made using yogurt instead of the usual heavy cream in an effort to make it more healthy. To me...panna cotta needs to be unhealthy as it's a self indulgent dessert. So the yogurt made it feel like I was eating a pot of yogurt with some berries in it like I would do in the morning.

Tiramisu ($20). The other dessert we ordered was a tiramisu. Normally, I hate ordering tiramisu at restaurants in Hong Kong as it's usually not done properly. But this place I was really surprised. It was done properly! They actually used marscapone cream and whipped it to make it feel like I was eating whipped cream. It had a light cloudlike texture. I suspect they may have followed the traditional recipe of using egg whites! Inside was small layer of espresso soaked lady fingers. How often I've cried that not many soak it in espresso! This was quite possibly one of the best tiramisu I've had in a long LONG time in Hong Kong.

A nice little find that was unexpected. Prices weren't expensive and quite reasonable. Food was delicious. Service was friendly and helpful. All in a comfortable setting. Would return and recommend to friends.
