Last week, we went all out to find the perfect birthday cake for my little nugget. After shortening the list a number of times, we finally settled on La Patisserie des Idees, a French patisserie at D2 Place One in Lai Chi Kok.We had limited success with this pastry shop in the past so everybody was wondering why the second chance? Well, I have always thought that the patissier behind this place has a lot of passion in what he does so they definitely deserve a second look.Lady Earl Grey ($320/lb)

Lady Earl Grey ($320/lb) - Grand earl grey mousse, mandarine cremeux, chocolate and speculoos crunch and earl grey dacquoise. The presentation was pretty down-to-earth but I like the interesting combination of mandarin and earl grey.

I thought this was seriously good. The acidity from the mandarin complemented the earthy flavors of earl grey tea perfectly. When it comes to texture, the speculoos crunch provides just enough crunchiness to the mix. I was hoping for the same from the earl grey dacquoise too but that was the only missing part in action from an otherwise very delicious cake.
