As an avid food blogger who had a soft spot for Japanese cuisine, I was determined to try out this spot after LadyIronChef, a leading Singaporean within the food blogosphere made a visit here during her short visit to Hong Kong. When I arrived, the restaurant was packed with office workers as it was the peak time for lunch. Shortly after I was seated, I ordered the Minced Tuna Rice ($188) whilst my mother ordered the Teppanyaki Set ($218) choosing the King Prawn and the Sirloin Beef Roll. When we were served the waitress did not speak but just placed down the food. However, the fact that the waitress seemed very unsure as to whether she served the food to the correct table; placing down a salad we did not order on the table before retracting her hand and then taking the salad again repeatedly. My mother and I were confused at the awkward situation as not only was this waitress preventing us from commencing with our meal, which was actually under time constraints, she also was lengthening the time for serving hot dishes on her tray which were getting colder by the minute as she deliberated whether or not the salad was for our table. We weren't sure if the salad was ours as we ordered rather hastily so we asked her to refer back to see whether the salad was ours. This incident didn't only occur once but twice with another waiter almost giving us an extra bowl of rice, reflecting the disorganisation in the kitchen.
Regardless of the disruptive service, the food was quite nice-the tuna was fatty but not as oily as expected and the portions on the slightly smaller size. Overall it was worth trying Kokomi to compare the standards of this restaurant with their fierce competitors e.g Kikusan but as a whole, I believe that there is room for improvement and I may possibly visit a few years later to see if their standards have improved sincrease their restaurant is rather new and adjusting to the fast-paced service at a CBD.
