It seems every time boyfriend and I explore Tseung Kwan O, we come across this all you can eat Japanese restaurant called 漁之部屋 (English name: Fishing Heya). They have two locations and only in the Tseung Kwan O area. And both locations are always packed with people waiting outside. We were always curious. Why was it so popular? I WAS CURIOUS!
So, one evening, we walked by it again and saw there was room. It was early so we looked at each other and said, should we?
For two hours, you only pay a certain price for anything from sushi to grilled items to tempura. They also have various desserts and creative drinks to choose from. When you are provided your bill, you will get to choose either Hagaan Daaz ice cream or ice cream bars or Movenpick ice cream. As we had not made a booking (yes, booking is required) but we had arrived early, they let us have a table but we had to leave a bit earlier than the 2 hours as there was booking at 8 PM. We were completely fine with this.
Menu is in Chinese and English. Though some of the names of the dishes were repeated several times in English as I assume they didn't know how to translate it. Food came in a timely manner and no orders were missed.
We ordered a bunch of items but I'll only highlight what I thought was worth mentioning.
These were the two creative drinks we decided to try. Boyfriend ordered the Blue Ocean. Basically a blue colored Sprite.
I had the matcha azuki bean foam. It was bland and pretty horrible. We didn't order anything else from the creative drinks list and stuck with a regular soft drink.
The sashimi was a thickly sliced so they didn't skimp on it. Quality was fresh and decent enough.
The sashimi were small pieces so they don't stuff you with huge chunks of rice.
The sake steamed clams were a decently large size. Though there wasn't any sake flavor I could taste. It was more like they used dashi. At least I found not sand in my clams so it was cleaned well.
This was the most interesting item. It was mini squid and mini asparagus, steamed in garlic. But for such a small package, it had a lot of stuff inside! It seemed we were still digging at it. Probably due to the small size of the items found inside?
We ordered a bunch of yakitori. These were not that great. The worst is the ox tongue. It wasn't even grilled. Just braised and doused in salt and pepper.
We ordered a round of fried items and these were served in the frying basket. There was so much MSG especially in the chicken wings that I could feel my tongue hurt. My gums hurt more after I ate a grilled pineapple as the acidity seared through my MSG sore mouth.
At the end we were given a separate order sheet. This was for one ice cream or ice cream bar. We choose ice cream bars and they allow you to eat them on your way out.
For all you can eat if you lived in the area, it wasn't too bad. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. Food came at a timely manner and no order was missed. However, I think there are better places out there so you really don't need to go out of your way to come here. But as I don't live in this area, I really won't be back.
