It’s pretty hard to find high-end restaurants in North Point. It’s pretty hard to find high-end restaurants in North Point. It’s an old-school HK neighborhood that hasn’t experienced the Western gentrification of Wanchai/Sheung Wan etc. So when we found first-class Japanese teppanyaki restaurant Kichiji within the Harbour North mall development, it was a highly welcomed and fortunate surprise.

Kichiji provides meat and seafood teppanyaki lunch sets (ard $300-$380) as well as regular lunch sets (ie sashimi, tempura, ard $150-250). We ordered the thin-cut steak teppanyaki, steak-seafood combo teppanyaki, and tempura set. Both teppanyakis were delicious, with the steak rolled w garlic and green onions, and the combo was half a lobster w 2 pieces of steak. Don’t order the pure seafood teppanyaki bec it’s just one shrimp, 2 scallops, and a piece of fish (the other 2 are better value).

It’s obviously a plus to sit at the grill since you get a free cooking show and it’s kinda exciting. But it’s not a dramatic acrobatic performance w tricks and twirls like at Benihana in the US...

The teppanyaki set comes w a unique tasting chawanmushi, miso soup, salad, abalone mini-appetizer, fried rice, and fried veg. The fried rice and veg are obviously tasty bec they’re fried in front of you on the teppanyaki. The tempura set also had a lot of stuff and was a good deal at $150. There’s like prob 20+ lunch set options. The grill chef said dinner teppanyaki starts at $1100 so lunch is a good deal.

You need to book in advance to sit at the teppanyaki grill since it fills up quick. The service was good with plentiful waitstaff.

Just a great high-class find amongst the myriad of simple mom-and-pop eateries in North Point, where lunch seating is cramped and service is rushed. There’s like 4 other similar class restaurants in the mall (3 are Canto) so maybe check those out too. And the spots in Hotel Vic look good...
