BF and I chose to properly end our lunch with dessert (as usual), arrived here at around 2pm and there was no other customers! It is usually busy after dinner. Last week, I had to wait 15 minutes for a table.
I ordered the Fresh Fruit Shaved Ice (+ Pearls and Mango Ice-cream), $39, perfect dessert for a hot summer day . What a beauty! The original shaved ice consists of shaved ice (clearly), red bean, nata de coco, mango juice, crushed strawberry, fresh fruits, some nut (hazelnut?) and optional milk. Since its not the first time I've had the dessert and I am not a big fan of red bean, I asked to omit them and added a scoop of mango ice cream and pearls!The highlight for me is surely their crushed strawberries. It is so fresh and flavorful, unlike many artificial strawberry flavorings I have tried before! This dessert is relatively large, I would suggest sharing it between 2 people because the ice tends to melt before 1 person can finish it (especially in this hot weather).
My BF ordered the Coffee Serradura Pudding, $12 and didn't enjoy it too much. I had a taste of it and agreed that it needs improvement. The texture was too hard (maybe it was fresh out of the fridge from overnight) and didn't really succumb to the spoon. Instead, it broke apart and a piece flew onto his pants! The coffee taste was very strong and too overwhelming: I couldn't taste anything else. Not something we would order again. Overall, Chung Kee is good value for money with many brilliant choices for desserts. I managed to personalized my shaved ice with two additional toppings and the portion was huge, definitely worth it! Service was reasonably efficient and friendly, restaurant itself new, clean and tidy.
Definitely coming back soon (but no Serradura Pudding please!)
