Asam Chicken Rice recently opened in Causeway Bay. With a number of branches found throughout Hong Kong, it served Hainan chicken rice along with other Singaporean food. The eve before Chinese New Year, boyfriend and I just wanted somewhere to eat without the huge huge lines. So, we came here as the line was short and people ate and left quickly.Located in Lee Theater, it's not a very large space. Menu is in English and Chinese. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge but as they said they added it for the Lunar New Year weekend. You pay on your way out. They have a tea set menu which consists of a bowl of noodles with shredded chicken and a drink for $38. A very cheap meal! So, we ordered that.
For drinks you can choose any drink. I had the ice calamansi plum. This was refreshing and sour. Perfect with hot soup.
The amount of noodles was quite a lot though a bit soggy. The soup had a layer of chicken fat as it was chicken soup. It was savory and quite ok though a bit too oily for my liking. There were bits of shredded chicken but not a lot. But at least the chicken was moist. There was some vegetables which were morning glory.
We had this exact item at a food court in Eaton Hotel and it was much better. Here was a bit more on the oily side. But for $38 I guess still acceptable. Might be back later to actually try the Hainan chicken rice.
