Mr Taco Truck delivers good actual Mexican food. We are used to eating either Tex-Mex claiming to Mexican food (nothing wrong with Tex-Mex), or some sad imitation. Here we got the real stuff.
We ordered some tacos al pastor, carnitas tacos, enchiladas con salsa roja and a couple of horchatas.
The first give away that it was Mexican was the fact that the salsas were really good and home-made from dried chillies. The The salsa asada was smokey and deep in flavour. The salsa piqante was hot, but exploded on your tongue.
The next thing was the orchata was made with rice, not from powder. It was creamy and the sweet cinnamon flavour lingered on the palate. Awesome.
The tacos came out and the way they were presented was exactly as they would be in Mexico with only onion and cilantro as the dressing, leaving you to add the lime and salsa as you pleased. Also, we opted for corn tortillas - the fact they had them was another sign of a good taqueria. The size was perfect and three bites finished a taco. Ok, so the al pastor was chopped rather than shaved, but it tasted great. The carnitas were prepared correctly and had a good flavour.
The enchiladas were very good. We opted for vegitarian and they were filled with refried beans and cheese, topped with cream. They were exactly what you would get at a small cantina in Mexico and they were rich and satisfying.
We were super happy with our food. Like I said earlier, true Mexican food is hard to come by in Asia and this has got to be the first time we have found a place that's worth a repeat visit. If you want the real deal, visit Mr Taco Truck.
