Tung Yuen is a nice and relatively affordable Chinese restaurant that I've frequented before for 'Yum Cha', but had never really gotten around to going for dinner. This time, I decided to try their non-dim sum food and I was impressed!-- Double Boiled Whole Winter Melon $128 --What a classic soup. -- Sesame Chicken Baked in Salt $78/half --
This was a really unique dish because I've never seen anything like it before. The skin was peppered with sesame and lightly fried to give it a mildly crispy texture, yet not overbearingly crunchy. The sesame also added to the texture and flavour of the chicken. The meat was well cooked as well, being very tender and juicy.
-- Braised Catfish In Clay Pot $88 --
There's nothing like seeing food served sizzling in a clay pot. The catfish was meaty and the skin was made to be chewy and infused with the mixture of sauce in the dish.
-- Steamed Bean Curd w/Scallop in Black Bean Sauce $98 --
This dish is definitely one for those who are a fan of blander food. It's just easy to chew and digest and the soy sauce and seasoning really give a boost to the otherwise bland tofu.
-- Sautéed Prawns & Rice Noodles w/ Soup $168 --
The funny thing is that when you eat this quickly, the rice noodles are rather crunchy, but when you wait a while, it turns soft, so you can have it depending on your own liking. The prawns were also big and went well with the soup.

The restaurant is very classically Chinese, and you'll find it a good place for small or large gatherings. There's even karaoke available as I've heard from the private room next to our table, and the menu is rather extensive too.
